Looking for a more laid-back vacation spot in beautiful Washington state? Oakville is a small village in central Washington with respect to both its physical size and population. Oakville was once nothing but open prairie maintained by local tribes of indigenous people. In the latter half of the 19th century, several families of settlers made their way to Washington all the way from Illinois. This would eventually open up the doors for a booming economy spurred on by agriculture and timber harvesting. The arrival of a railway further legitimized the town and cemented its legacy as a permanent settlement.

When you book an RV in Oakville, you’ll find a cultured little town that largely keeps to itself. It isn’t your usual vacation destination, but there are lots of great reasons to give it a shot. The Chehalis River flows adjacent to town and the lush Capitol State Forest borders Oakville to the north. When you rent an RV in Oakville, you have lots of maneuverability to hit the road and visit some of the best sights in all of Washington. Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle are all within driving distance, as are several beaches and national parks. Oakville is also particularly festive, with town-wide celebrations on nearly every major holiday, including a large parade on Independence Day and a tree lighting ceremony for Christmas. Don’t miss out on this delightful little town in Washington; rent an RV here as soon as you can.

Discover Oakville

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Washington is a state of unparalleled natural beauty, known for its massive mountain ranges and lush evergreen forests. Even Oakville’s name pays homage to the Garry oak trees that are commonly found in the Pacific Northwest. On the northern edge of town, Capitol State Forest is an easy place to visit and you hardly need to leave the comfort of your Oakville camper rental. At just over 90,000 acres, this sprawling forest has plenty of open space for recreation. Miles and miles of trails wind through the forest, making for excellent hiking, biking, and off-roading on ATVs or dirt bikes. The unusual Mima Mounds of Capitol State Forest are one of a handful of examples in the world of a rare geological feature akin to little evenly spaced bumps in the ground.

Westport Light State Park is a phenomenal place to visit out on the Pacific coast, especially if you enjoy visiting historic lighthouses. Grays Harbor Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in the state, and one of the most important too. Hundreds of acres of coastal meadows and divine beaches are open for a plethora of activities when you decide to bring your Oakville RV rental to the shore. Fishing, swimming, hiking, and golfing on the golf course are satisfying ways to spend your time at the small park by the sea.

Grayland Beach State Park is yet another stunning park by the oceanside where you can take your Oakville motorhome rental to camp on the shore. There are breathtaking views at all times, but sunset is especially pleasing to see from the beach. Aside from hiking along the water’s edge, you can go fishing or clamming to try to catch yourself some fresh seafood for supper.

The Evergreen State is loaded with incredible national forests and parks, and the closest ones you’ll find to town when you rent an RV are Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park. These two incredible territories combine to form a massive wilderness area that is great for recreation too. The majestic Olympic Mountains are the central feature of the park, with elegant snowcapped peaks that can be seen from as far away as Seattle. You can even attempt to summit Mount Olympus, the tallest of the heavenly mountains in the range. If climbing mountains isn’t your style, there are rocky coastlines and temperate rainforests to explore. Camping at the national park in your Oakville travel trailer rental is a fantastic idea, as you’ll need a few days to truly get a feel for this unbelievable wilderness area.

Where to Park It

When you rent an RV in Oakville, you might be wondering where you can actually keep it overnight. There are a few exemplary campgrounds and parks in the area that will gladly welcome you when you arrive. Outback RV Park is beautifully landscaped with lots of spacious sites. The park has basketball courts, playgrounds, a library, a video rental kiosk, and a camp store.

Chehalis Tribal Eagle RV Park is close to town and has spacious spots for larger RVs. You can use their shuttle or shop at their convenience store while you stay.

Travel Inn Resort is a little farther from town and only a half hour's drive from the beach. The park is open year-round and has a clubhouse with lots of scheduled activities. Rainbow Falls State Park is one of many state and national parks that you can stay at when you rent an RV in Washington.

City Attractions

The town of Oakville is quite small and not the type of town that has big city attractions. Fortunately, the state capital Olympia is a 30-minute drive away and can easily be visited should you feel the need to go shopping, visit a museum, or experience city nightlife. The Washington State Capitol Building is a must see when you visit Olympia. Both the new capitol building and the old one are within a few blocks of each other. The new capitol building’s campus is full of cool exhibits and wonderful memorials, like the Washington State Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Olympic Flight Museum is all about aviation, which is appropriate considering that the state is home to Boeing, one of the largest manufacturers of planes in the world. An amazing collection of different planes and jets can be seen while you tour the museum and there are frequent flight shows to showcase what they can do.

You can make a stop at the large casino in the area, with restaurants, sports bars, gaming tables, and thousands of slot machines to try. Gambling might not be your cup of tea but there is lots of live entertainment and other fun events happening at the casino too.

Puget Sound Estuarium is a lot like an aquarium, with a narrower focus on organisms and animals found in the Puget Sound estuaries. The building is decorated with impressive murals and the wildlife on display is fascinating.
