Enumclaw sits at on the southeastern edge of the Seattle metropolitan area, near the base of the Cascade Mountains. Its strange sounding name comes from the Salish tribe’s word for “Place of Evil Spirit” but there’s no need to worry that the area is cursed, they were simply referring to the great windstorms that frequently blow around the summit of nearby Mount Enumclaw.

When you book an RV in Enumclaw you’ll feel like you’ve landed in a fairly remote location. But fear not, if you need some big city living, it’s possible to reach both Seattle and Tacoma using only public transportation. This is especially fortunate as finding parking in the city can be quite a challenge in the larger cities.

Discover Enumclaw

The Great Outdoors

Enumclaw is considered to be the gateway to Mount Rainier National Park, and thus it sees quite a few tourists seeking outdoor adventure. If touring the state’s tallest mountain is something you’d like to do, be sure to reserve campsites on the famed Wonderland Trail as permits fill up months in advance.

However, the Chinook Scenic Byway is another must when you choose a motorhome rental in Enumclaw. The route starts just outside of town and makes its way over the Cascade Mountains to the Naches Valley on the eastern side. Along the way, you’ll have fantastic views of Mount Rainier along with a number of cascading waterfalls and placid lakes. You won’t necessarily be confined to the vehicle either as there are dozens of great trails to further explore this picturesque terrain if you so choose.

Crystal Mountain is also not far away when you get a camper rental in Enumclaw. This place is considered one of the best ski resorts in Washington State. However, if you’re visiting during the summer months, there’s still plenty to do; you could ride a gondola to the summit, take an outdoor yoga class in the shadow of the majestic peak, or take a horseback ride through the beautiful alpine terrain.

But if you’re looking for something close to town, Enumclaw also has its own municipal golf course for when you’re ready to hit the links. For even more variety though, there are also several other courses in nearby communities.

RV Parks near Enumclaw

Though relatively close to the densely packed neighborhoods of Seattle, Enumclaw has several RV parks and campgrounds that would be perfect when you rent an RV here. One of the closest parks is Riverview RV Park in Puyallup, and it’s conveniently located near the intersection of Route 167 and 512. You’ll find it equipped with full hookups for your RV rental in Enumclaw, while also having laundry facilities and some great bike trails if you feel like getting out on two wheels. You could also stay at the nearby Washington State Fairgrounds when you get a travel trailer rental in Enumclaw. Sites have full hookups but don’t expect the most scenic atmosphere.

If you’d prefer a more natural campsite, head to Silver Springs Campground near Mount Rainier National Park. While it might not have the full hookups of a dedicated RV park, there are well-maintained flush toilets and warm water is available. There’s also The Dalles Campground directly adjacent to Silver Springs, which has toilets, drinking water, and some spacious RV sites. It also has easy access to the White River if you’d like to do some fishing and have the proper state license.

A final option would be to camp in the Walmart parking lot in nearby Bonney Lake. With manager permission, you can probably stay for a few days, but come ready to be self-sufficient.

Exploring the Town of Enumclaw

One of the best parts about visiting Enumclaw is that it’s the chance to truly experience small-town life without needing to venture too far from a populous city. Its downtown area is still filled with little shops and eateries and there are few signs of big corporations anywhere within the city limits. Just outside of town, there are vast swaths of farm and ranch land under the control of small business owners too. Taking a drive through them, even for a few hours, is a beautiful way to experience the slower pace of life in Enumclaw.

Enumclaw is also famous for being on the outskirts of Washington’s Yakima Valley wine country. If you’re a fan of good vino, you’ll definitely want to try some when getting an RV rental in Enumclaw, WA. While Napa Valley and the Central Valley of California get all the national publicity, the Pacific Northwest has plenty of tasty blends to sample without all the crowds and high prices. If wine’s not your thing though, there are also some fantastic cideries and breweries within a short drive of Enumclaw.
