Utah is a large state teeming with exciting outdoor recreation possibilities and sprawling wilderness lands. The park was named for the white sandstone dome features reminiscent of a capitol building. Capitol Reef has crazy geological features, rigid mountains, deep canyons, and some unique looking monoliths due to its location on top of a fold in the Earth’s crust. There are even ancient petroglyphs etched into the ground that can only be seen from an elevated vantage point.

Zion National Park is farther to the south but well worth a visit. This crown jewel of the Utah parks is among the most popular parks in the country with well over four million visitors a year. There are, of course, several campgrounds where you can stay should you need a little more time to fully explore the park.

Camping areas and RV parks are abundant in Utah due to its outdoor tourism and natural scenery. There are restaurants and shops on every street corner, but other attractions can be found elsewhere. Provo is a short drive north on the interstate, and full of attractions. The Provo Pioneer Village is a fascinating place to learn about the perilous journey that settlers undertook to reach the promised lands of Utah over 150 years ago. This exciting park is run by loving volunteers who cherish recreating the mid-19th century in historic garb while bringing guests on a tour through time.

Brigham Young University is situated in Provo and has a variety of museums on campus that are open to the general public. The BYU Museum of Paleontology is a small, intimate space packed with incredible fossils and dinosaur skeletons found in Utah, among other places. The Museum of Art at Brigham Young University is another fabulous institution with an eclectic mix of religious art, sculptures, and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs.
