On the southern edges of the Salt Lake City metro area is the small city of Midvale, Utah. The area was once home to wandering Ute indigenous peoples before settlers arrived and laid claim to the fertile, resource-rich lands of Salt Lake County. When the easterners first came to Utah in the mid 19th century, Midvale was established as a center for mining and industry due to the various rare metals unearthed in the vicinity, as well as its position on the railway which linked it to the capital city of Utah.

Midvale’s Old Town is truly a spectacular sight that takes visitors back to the olden days of cowboys, crooks, bounty hunters, and prospectors. Antiquated boarding houses, hotels, and saloons offer a link the past in what is now a modern city in a high mountain valley. With world-class natural scenery on the peripheries of the city as well as the rest of Utah and tons of big-city attractions in nearby Salt Lake City, Midvale presents itself as an ideal place to rent an RV for vacation purposes. Both Interstates 215 and 80 cut through town so getting in and out is a breeze, and there is excellent public transit to take advantage of. Book an RV in Midvale at any time throughout the year and you will wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner.

Discover Midvale

Explore the Outdoors

Utah is blessed with some pretty breathtaking sights and scenery when it comes to the great outdoors, so you could essentially take your Midvale RV rental in any direction and find some sort of park or forest where you can camp. The Great Salt Lake can be found northwest of the metro area and is one of the state’s most famous features. Antelope Island State Park sits on the shores of this iconic lake and is home to free-roaming herds of bison. There are grasslands, lakefront beaches, marinas, a restaurant, and several camping sites to accommodate you and your Midvale motorhome rental. On top of all that, Antelope Island has numerous species of migratory birds and is home to the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival, one of the country’s premier birdwatching events. Wasatch Mountain State Park is east of Midvale in the Wasatch Mountains, an offshoot of the Rocky Mountains. The park has historic buildings from abandoned homesteads and settlements and some difficult hikes for eager outdoor enthusiasts. Horseback riding and mountain biking are popular ways to get around the park in the warmer months but winter is an optimal time to visit, bringing with it snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, Nordic skiing, and tubing. There are two golf courses at Wasatch Mountains State Park and several camping areas for you to choose from when you rent an RV and look for a place to sleep.

Price Canyon Recreation Area is a nice place to stay for a night or two, with camping beneath beautiful bristlecone pine trees thought to be some of the longest living organisms on the planet. Pristine hiking trails and great views of the valley are reason enough to visit this recreation area, but the glowing night skies radiating the light from distant galaxies and stars is truly a sight to behold.

There are several phenomenal national parks within driving distance but in the interest of saving time and not getting too ambitious, Capitol Reef National Park is the closest to Midvale. Capitol Reef is known for its stunning monoliths, canyons, natural arches, and other geological oddities that captivate all that look upon the serene desert landscape. You can navigate canyons, rock climb, mountain bike, or even get a permit to harvest wild fruit in the park, or simply just camp out in the backcountry in the comforts of your Midvale RV rental by owner. Bryce Canyon National Park and Canyonlands National Park are a few hours' drive away and easy to reach too if you have the time to see some more Utah beauty.

RV Parks to Visit

Salt Lake City and its surrounding cities have a few options when it comes to camping in the metro area, but you are much more likely to find campgrounds and RV parks outside the city. Mountain Shadows RV Park has movie and book rentals, basketball and volleyball courts, a game room, a general store, a pool, and many more amenities to keep you occupied during your stay. Salt Lake City KOA belongs to a national chain of campgrounds, and is several blocks from downtown Salt Lake City should you want to live the city life for a few days. The park has a pool, sauna, snack bar, and a shuttle to bring guests around town.

Pony Express RV Resort & Campground has exquisite views, a pool, a gaming room, bicycle rentals, a souvenir store, and much more too. Wasatch Mountains State Park and Antelope Island State Park are also capable of handling RV campers so don’t hesitate to head to one of the many state and national parks in Utah.

City Sightseeing

Aside from its historic Old Town, there aren’t too many sights to see in Midvale itself. There are distilleries, breweries, shopping malls, and restaurants to visit, but the greater Salt Lake City area is teeming with attractions that are easy to access. The Natural History Museum of Utah is one of the best places to learn about the natural history of Utah, a state where geology and natural history are arguably its defining feature. There is a lovely gift shop and there are lots of exhibits with minerals, rare gems, dinosaur fossils, and artifacts from ancient ancestors who lived in North America over 10,000 years ago.

Loveland Living Planet Aquarium has plenty of exotic ocean life on display, for the purpose of rehabilitating, preserving, researching, and fostering a sense of urgency to protect the Earth’s delicate ocean ecosystems. The aquarium is an excellent place for people of all ages to visit, especially young children who love to learn about animals and the environment. Kids will equally enjoy the massive waterpark over in Draper, Utah. Sun tanning decks for adults, large pools, tangled waterslides weaving through one another, and countless other thrilling water features make this a great family vacation stop when you rent an RV in Midvale.
