Settled in 1876, this Texas town was named after its founder, T. K. Seago. In 1910, the town changed its name to Seagoville, to avoid confusion with another Texan town, Sego.
Seagoville is best known for its role in World War II, during which one of the detention camps for Japanese-Americans was established here. The camp housed 647 people at its height and was eventually closed in 1945.
The closest large town is Dallas, a little over 20 miles to the north. Arlington, which is where Six Flags over Texas is located, is 40 miles to the northwest. Fort Worth, Dallas’ “sister city,” is 12 miles past Arlington (roughly 52 miles altogether). The town’s proximity to Dallas and easy access to Lake Ray Hubbard and Cedar Creek Reservoir makes it a good central location for you to start your outdoor adventure!
When you rent a motorhome in Seagoville, you will likely want to explore the wilderness. Due to urban sprawl and growth, wilderness in this part of Texas are fast vanishing, although pockets of wilderness are still available.
The 6,000-acre Trinity Forest park is one of the largest urban open-space parks in the US. This park offers a mix of ecosystems, including bottomland hardwood forest, wetland, and prairie. A portion of this park lies on a former dump site, and the park has been restored to its original condition. The Audubon Center, nestled just inside its boundaries, welcomes visitors to its sanctuaries and encourages them to participate in nature education programs. Visitors can explore hands-on exhibits, miles of nature viewing trails, and a butterfly garden created to protect threatened butterflies.
The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center in Seagoville merges education with scientific research at the 3,100 acres of man-made wetland habitat on the edge of the Rosewood Seagoville Ranch property. The Wetland Center features boardwalks extending into the marshy terrain, allowing visitors to learn about the wetland systems and observe native wildlife.
Lake Ray Hubbard is one of the states largest lakes, spanning 22,000 acres. This lake is great for fishing, skiing, relaxing, and recreational boating, and there are dozens of boat ramps (several are free) and marinas for boaters to use. Several parks provide hiking and biking trails, with beachside access for fishing and sunbathing. Several fish species may be found here including white and hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, channel, and blue catfish, and white crappie. Black bass, bream, and sand bass are commonly caught here. Kayak and boat rentals are available, also.
Swing by the Trinity Forest Adventure Park in your Seagoville luxury motorhome rental for some high-flying adventure. The park features high ropes courses, zip lines, wobbly bridges, and tightropes. It’s the only aerial adventure park in Texas.
When you rent an RV in Seagoville, you’ll need someplace to park for a few days while you explore the area. With a little patience and some driving, you’ll find good candidates.
Plantation Place, for example, is minutes away from Lake Ray Hubbard and features amenities like full hookups for your RV, 20, 30, and 50 amps, laundry facilities, free cable, and WiFi.
The Dallas Hi Ho RV Park may be a good alternative to consider. It’s a tree-shaded RV park, which is a nice perk on a arid, hot day. A sixties-style RV park, though the facilities are spartan, offers full hookups, restrooms, and showers, and a laundry facility. It’s also pet-friendly, with breed restrictions.
Although a relative quiet town, when you rent a motorhome in Seagoville, you’ll gain access to a number of activities in the area. The Gentle Zoo in Forney is a fun children’s zoo. The zoo has several animals accustomed to people, like alpacas, goats, tortoises, emus, kangaroo, a capybara, and a coatimundi. The Gentle Zoo also has a giant “jumping pillow,” a sort of a ground-surface trampoline, train ride, a maze and seasonal events like pumpkin patches.
Texas loves its golf courses, and Seagoville is no exception. The Rusty Bucket Club in Crandall boast a par-72 course, set on mild rolling terrain with two creeks and a driving range.
Don’t miss out on an adventure of a lifetime during your time in Seagoville. Six Flags over Texas and Hurricane Harbor parks in Arlington are a “can’t-miss." Both parks feature rides ranging from wild and furious to gentler slides ideal for toddlers. Note: Both parks are closed in winters and are open only on weekends during the spring and fall months. The parking lots can accommodate your rental RV, but space for large rigs often are limited, particularly on summer weekends.
While touring Dallas, stop in its art district and wander the halls of art museums and galleries. The shortlist includes Amon Carter Art Museum, Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and Dallas Museum of Art. Visit the JFK Memorial and Museum and join a tour that walks you through the events that took place of that fateful day that resulted in stunning the entire nation: the assassination of the beloved President Kennedy.
Cap off your whirlwind sightseeing and adventure vacation in your Seagoville camper rental with a proper Texan BBQ. Locals and tourists often engage in spirited debates over which smokehouse has the best BBQ and whether wet or dry rubs are better. Try some of the well-known smokehouses in the area and form your own opinion.
