The suburban city of Rowlett was founded in 1935 when a small immigrant company and a Mr. Daniel Rowlett settled in the region. Mr. Rowlett became an important person in this region and, although he never lived in Rowlett, the town was named in his honor. In the 1940s, more American settlers began to settle in the area and by 1880, Rowlett had opened its first post office. The arrival of a cotton gin and the Greenville & Dallas Railroad in the late 1980s brought even more settlers and trade to this formerly rural town.

Nowadays Rowlett is a calm close-knit community with all the modern amenities of a large city.
