Madisonville is a city in and the county seat of Madison County, both of which were named after President James Madison. The city and county were both created in 1853. The city's first courthouse was constructed the following year out of logs, and a post office was created. The city continued to grow, and in 1903, it received its first railroad; this was supplanted by the creation of paved roads (State Highways 90 and 21, and U.S. 75) in the late 1920s and early 1930s, forcing the railroad to discontinue service in 1944. Although the city began as and continues to be an agricultural trade center, it has diversified in recent years, with industries such as mushroom processing and petroleum production adding to the economy. Madisonville has at least one historic structure, the Woodbine Hotel, which was built in 1904 and restored at least once; it was added to the National Register of Historic Places after being recognized in 1982.

Search for an RV in Madison County, and you will be ready to visit the sights and sounds of this picturesque community. Other towns and communities are worth visiting too, such as Centerville which has annually held a black-eyed pea festival since 1937. Crockett began as a logging community and later expanded to include lignite mining. Huntsville is the home of the HEARTS Veterans Museum of Texas. Bryan and its surrounding area began as a land grant from Spain, which controlled the area at the time. Hearne began around the 1840s as a tavern that also hosted a post office and a general store. Your Madisonville travel trailer rental is your RSVP to visit and experience this area.

The Great Outdoors

Fort Boggy State Park is a developed outdoor recreational area where guests can swim, hike, and mountain bike. The park has a pavilion which groups can use, a lake to fish in, and a boat launch for small rowboats, canoes, and kayaks. The area consists of wetlands, bottomland meadows, and rolling wooded hills. There is a variety of animal and plant life that visitors can enjoy and photograph. The area was previously farmland until being reclaimed for public use.

Davy Crockett National Forest, named after the famous American explorer, is a wooded recreation area and wildlife habitat that was once a logging area and log pond. Today the park is a popular destination for camping, picnicking, and other activities. Visitors boat or fish on the lake, hike the miles of trails through towering pines and hardwoods and view the wildlife, such as doves, squirrels, and woodpeckers. Some areas within the park are undisturbed, offering visitors an authentic outdoor experience. Park your Madisonville camper rental nearby, and you can finish your outdoor excursions with a hot meal and a comfortable chair to enjoy it in.

Sam Houston National Forest is one of four national forests in the state of Texas and is believed to have been occupied as early as 12,000 years ago. It is a multi-use area, providing space for grazing, timber production, plant and animal habitats, and public recreational use. Guests can hike the multitude of trails, including the 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail which passes through the park. Primitive camping is allowed except during hunting season when campers must remain within established camping areas as a precaution. Fishing is allowed, and guests can swim in the lake or rivers, or enjoy picnicking throughout the park.

Portions are large, and everything is freshly made; diners finding their way here should try the bread pudding. One of the local steakhouses works hard to keep their menu innovative and interesting and succeeds. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with an authentic Lone Star State flag proudly displayed at the entrance. Portions are generous, so don't be surprised if you can't finish your meal; ask to have it wrapped and take it home to your Madisonville luxury RV rental for a late-night snack. It's what vacations are all about.
