The quiet small town of Liberty, Texas is sandwiched between the two larger cities of Houston to the west and Beaumont to the east. US Highway 90 conveniently connects the three, making a trip to either city quick and simple for those visiting Liberty. Campers may prefer Liberty as it's close to nature but within a stone's throw of the city. With lots of natural wonders blended with Texas city living, there are plenty of reasons to choose an RV rental in Liberty, TX.

Straddling the Trinity River, Liberty acted as an important river port and had a part to play in the Trinity River steamboat trade. It also has a long and war-torn history. William Barrett Travis, a commander at the Alamo, practiced law in the area. The town also has connections to the Texas Revolution, so there's plenty to explore when you rent an RV here, whether you're a nature lover, city slicker, or history buff.

The Great Outdoors

One of the best reasons to book an RV in Liberty is that it's right of the doorstep of the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge. Created in 1994, this refuge was set up to protect the bottomland hardwood forest and its inhabitants. Visitors can take hikes along the riverbanks through the cypress trees and see hundreds of diverse species of critters such as beavers, bats, and falcons. There are many activities to enjoy here too; visitors can hunt boar, catch catfish in the lake, or just take some panoramic pictures for the wall at home.

If you want to head out for some scenic hikes when you rent an RV near Liberty, TX, you'll want to visit Sam Houston National Forest. This refuge spans three counties and has long trails such as the Lone Star Hiking Trail which is over 100 miles long. This means you'll never run out of new places to explore when you visit. There are also opportunities for deer hunting if hiking isn't for you.

Liberty is also close to Trinity Bay, perfect if you're looking to enjoy water sports. With Beach City and Galveston close by, there are plenty of options for bayside fun. For thrill-seekers, there's even a chance to go extreme flyboarding and hoverboarding.

RV Parks

RV parks in the area are numerous as Liberty is very close to Houston. One nearby option is Houston East RV Resort in Baytown. This campground offers full hookups, 30 and 50 amp electricity, and Wi-Fi. There is also an on-site pool as well as laundry services. There are 116 sites, meaning there is plenty of space; however, booking ahead is recommended.

Another nearby option would be Mont Belvieu RV Resort, also located in Baytown. With 242 spaces available, this large RV park offers full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electricity. There are also recreation areas on-site, and a fully stocked fishing lake if you would prefer a more inclusive vacation when you rent a motorhome in Liberty.

Exploring the city

The main draw of Liberty is its sports recreation, with plenty of opportunities to go fishing and hunting. There are also plenty of places to grab a quick bite to eat or even sit down for a meal. With US Highway 90 running through the town, there are also lots of places to stop for gas to fill up your Liberty campervan rental.

One of the best stops in Liberty is the Liberty Opry. This is a popular music venue operating out of the historic Park Theater which was built in 1938. Advertised as being one of the best family-friendly live music venues in Texas, the Liberty Opry may well be worth a visit when you rent an RV in Liberty.

If you're looking to learn about the history of the area, then you may want to take a quick drive to the San Jacinto Museum of History and Battle Monument in La Porte. Located less than an hour's drive south, this museum documents how one of the shortest battles in American history helped shape the nation. Prisoners from the Battle of San Jacinto were held in the town of Liberty, so it may well be worth checking out if you want to learn more about the town.

Another interesting piece of history within Liberty itself is the Liberty Bell; it's a replica of the Philadelphia Liberty Bell and weighs over 2,000 pounds. It's a perfect stop if your vacation plans aren't taking you to see the real thing. Unfortunately, the Bell Tower itself had to be demolished in 2009.
