The small town of La Grange is a riverside community in Texas, ten minutes off of Interstate 10 between San Antonio and Houston. The first incarnation of this small community was a small river crossing on the Kings Road, in order to help the Spanish colonists cross the Colorado River. Later on, in the early 19th century, the first Anglo-American settlers began to reach the area, establishing settlements like La Grange to protect themselves from attacks by the Comanche indigenous people. When the town was first platted, Texas was still its own country independent of the United States. The town name pays homage to Marquis de Lafayette, a French commander who aided the Americans during the Revolutionary War, helping to defeat the British Empire.

La Grange has found the secret to happiness and longevity, maintaining its charm and historic atmosphere to this very day. La Grange is the county seat for Fayette County, with lots of historic districts and gorgeous old buildings. When you book an RV in La Grange, you are practically equidistant to San Antonio, Houston, and even the state capital of Austin. The Gulf Coast is one way to enjoy your La Grange camper rental on vacation, and there are countless other ways to get the most out of your trip when you decide to rent an RV in central Texas.

Discover La Grange

Experience the Sites and Scenery

You don’t have to drive very far when you rent an RV in La Grange if your intention is to see some of the natural beauty of the Lone Star State. In fact, there are two state parks quite close to town for those that don’t feel like venturing too far away from La Grange. Buescher State Park is one of the parks you can find without driving very far, named for the Buescher family that generously donated a portion of the land to the state to establish the nature sanctuary. There are a few miles of excellent hiking trails centered around a lovely lake that is fully stocked for fishing purposes. Guests can picnic by the water, go for a swim, or even camp out with extraordinary views of the lake. The park is connected to Bastrop State Park by means of a small road, and only four miles separate them from each other. Bastrop State Park has lots of delightful hiking loops leading through serene juniper forests, in addition to a large public swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course. The park itself has also been designated a National Historic Landmark for its amazing architecture with regards to its buildings and facilities.

It’s a bit of a long drive but Matagorda Island on the Gulf Coast is an amazing place to bring your La Grange camper rental if you feel like experiencing the Gulf Coast of Texas. Matagorda Island State Park covers part of the massive barrier island and enables people to enjoy stunning beaches all to themselves. The island is only accessible by boat so there is no camping on the island when you bring your La Grange motorhome rental.

Texas also has an impressive selection of national forests that are worth checking out when you rent an RV in La Grange, with Sam Houston National Forest arguably being the most popular of the bunch. Hiking is the best way to get around the park, with hundreds of miles of hiker-friendly trails to traverse. The Lone Star Hiking Trail is over 100 miles long itself and is a cherished hiking spot for outdoor enthusiasts in Texas. Winter is one of the best times to hike the forest due to the insanely hot summer temperatures in central Texas, but there is truly no wrong time to visit. Guests can also go hunting, fishing, or camping at one of many excellent campgrounds when they rent an RV and need a place to stay.

Where to Park It

La Grange has a few places to stay when you rent an RV in town, so you are covered no matter where you decide to park. Suncatcher RV Park is located in the historic section of La Grange and is within walking distance of many of the town's attractions, restaurants, bars, breweries, cafes, and shops.

Colorado Landing RV Park sits right on the Colorado River, with ample space to fish. There is a boat launch on the river and lots of nature trails to hike alongside the river. Colorado River RV Campground is just off of Interstate 10 with lots of amenities. A swimming pool lets guests beat the Texas heat, and you can also go fishing, play volleyball, play a round of golf, or use the many bicycle trails in the area.

City Attractions

La Grange is a lovely little town with its own distinct charm that is apparent to all who visit for the very first time. What it lacks in size it makes up for with a delightful walking area downtown, full of craft breweries, locally owned restaurants, and lots of shopping. Fayette County Courthouse is one of many historic buildings that can be spotted in town, with exquisite Romanesque architecture and an imposing presence. The Texas Quilt Museum might not sound like the most thrilling attraction but you shouldn’t judge this fascinating book by its cover. The museum is proof that quilts offer more than their warmth; these artistic masterpieces explore a medium of art that is not often explored in traditional art museums.

Monument Hill & Kreische Brewery State Historic Site is a unique feature in town that speaks volumes about the town’s history. The hill overlooking town is the final resting place of several Texas heroes that died fighting for independence and was also the sight of an old brewery founded by a German immigrant in the 19th century. Texas Heroes Museum at the Old Fayette County Jail has knowledgeable tour guides that do their very best to educate visitors on the history of the region, as well as the many Texas heroes, from Texas Rangers to military veterans. The museum is housed in the old jail that once held some of Texas’s most notorious criminals too.
