Keller is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, originally named “Athol”; it was first settled in the 1850s but changed its name to Keller in 1882 after a foreman, John C. Keller, on the Texas Pacific Railroad line. It was finally incorporated in 1955. The city was originally a farming community and its location near Trinity River, forests with game animals, and open farming land made it an ideal location. The arrival of the railroad made it a prosperous trade center and its post office was built in 1886 (following the closure of the nearby Double Springs post office). Keller's water supply was housed in home cisterns until 1906 when a public well was dug on Main Street. Electricity was added in the early 1880s, then a privately owned telephone system that remained in place until 1966. Keller also benefits from its access to U.S. Highway 377, running from Fort Worth to Denton, making it a vibrant, reachable, and growing community.

RV rentals in Tarrant County are your best choice for exploring and learning about this historic area. There are other cities that are equally worth spending some time in. Denton has hot, humid summers and is characterized as a college town (it is home to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, built in 1890 and 1901 respectively). Grapevine was the location of an 1843 peace treaty meeting between Texas state commissioners and a group of Indian elders. Arlington was one of the “boomburgs” or fastest growing communities following World War II; the Texas Rangers baseball team (formerly the Washington Senators) relocated here in 1972, followed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2009. Weatherford's first newspaper, the Weatherford Democrat, began publishing in 1895. Decatur was originally named Taylorsville but political rivalry led to its name being changed in 1858. Your Keller travel trailer rental is your opportunity to see the local history up close and in person.

The Great Outdoors

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is a wildlife preserve and nature education initiative that is open to the public all year round. The park was created in 1964 in response to pressure from the Fort Worth Audubon Society and local citizens. It is comprised of wetland, prairie, and forest habitats, and the refuge has a number of trails where visitors can enjoy self-guided or staff-guided tours. Park your Keller motorhome rental nearby and you can enjoy a hot lunch and drinks in between your outdoor excursions.

Eagle Mountain Park is one of three parks on Eagle Mountain Lake; it rests on the east side of the mountain and is a publicly accessible preserve offering hiking trails that are generally moderate in difficulty, with some steeper slopes leading to viewpoints overlooking the lake. The trails are well maintained but visitors should watch out for snakes. The other two parks, Shady Grove and Twin Points, also have amenities such as public swimming, baseball fields, and a tennis court.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds near Keller, and many of them have mobile homes as well as RVs. Your Keller RV trailer rental is the perfect choice for making any of these destinations your vacation's home base.

Northlake Village RV Park is an open area RV campground with some trees along the park's outskirts. It has small and large sites that can be rented by the day, week, or month. The sites include full hookups, concrete pads, and Wi-Fi; park amenities include restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and an exercise center. There is also a swimming pool.

Avondale RV Park is a developed RV campground that rents sites by the day, week, or month; it is child-friendly for short term (daily or weekly) stays and pet-friendly with some restrictions. Individual sites have electrical outlets and concrete pads.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to see and do in Keller; a good place to start is an open downtown park near the shopping district, where guests can take a relaxing stroll and watch the ducks and other wildlife. There is a botanical garden and also a facility where visitors can take a self-guided tour of a federal building where most of the U.S. currency is printed. The tour takes you on an elevated walkway over top of the building and ends at a museum focusing on the history of money. The city has a car racing speedway, a ranch with an archery range, and more. Be sure to take your time and not drive too fast when you take your Keller RV rental for a spin on the local highways; this is an RV ritual and just one reason why RV vacations are unique and not to be missed.

Guests feeling peckish won't be let down by the city, which has a good variety of cuisines on hand and prices ranging from inexpensive to moderately priced and fine dining. A local Greek-Mediterranean restaurant has live music on some evenings and also has an outdoor garden. Guests dining here should start with the lemon rice or tomato basil soup; lunchtime diners can satisfy themselves with the buffet that includes beef with okra and rice pudding. A Cajun-Creole seafood eatery offers large portions of freshly cooked dishes. Diners eating here should try the catfish or the fried alligator.

Wherever you decide to eat, expect to take leftovers home with you to your Keller luxury RV rental for a late night snack or next day's lunch. A delicious snack enjoyed in lawn chairs under a star-filled sky is what vacations were meant to be.
