“The Friendly City” is a heck of a motto for any place, especially one you are considering as your next vacation destination. Groesbeck, Texas is named for railroad employee Abram Groesbeeck and was first established in 1869. The name was misspelled on purpose to simplify the pronunciation, making it easier for people to say.
Groesbeck is the seat of Limestone County, so it is home to vital government services and a spectacular courthouse known as the “million dollar courthouse.” Its storied past, proximity to historical sites and state parks, as well as its lovely small-town atmosphere, make it a wonderful place to rent an RV. When you book an RV in Groesbeck, you will also find that you are situated in one of the most happening regions in all of Texas. Groesbeck is close to the center of the triangle formed between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, so most of the state’s largest cities are well within reach for you and your Groesbeck camper rental.
Texas has an impressive array of state parks, national forests, and other enchanting recreation areas that you can make use of when you rent an RV in Groesbeck. Just minutes outside of town is Fort Parker State Park, a historically significant slice of Texas that is worth checking out. The park is home to the last vestiges of a town called Springfield, which was abandoned during the Civil War due to lawlessness and conflict. There are old cemeteries and remnants of this ghost town in the park, along with a network of hiking and biking trails. Furthermore, you can kayak and canoe on the lake, go swimming, visit the park’s nature center, or camp overnight with your recreational vehicle if you feel like staying an extra night or two.
Fairfield Lake State Park is one of the best parks in central Texas, located on the shores of Fairfield Lake. This waterfront park offers exquisite views of the sunset, with scenic hiking trails, campsites by the water, secluded fishing spots, white sand beaches, swimming areas, and ample space to boat on the lake. ATV riding and off-roading also make for an exciting time, and you can catch a concert or show at the park’s outdoor theater. Purtis Creek State Park has its own water-based recreation over by Dallas, with a 350-acre lake known for its fishing. Hiking, biking, fishing, and boating are the most commonly-enjoyed activities, and you can camp out with your Groesbeck travel trailer rental for some epic camping too.
Down by Houston, the Sam Houston National Forest is one of the largest and most well-known natural areas in eastern Texas. There are over 150,000 acres at this incredible forest, with hundreds of miles of hiking trails and loops. The 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail is the crown jewel of the park and a commonly used trail for experienced trekkers. Furthermore, there are a few campgrounds that you can use when you want to stay longer than you originally intended.

Groesbeck is not a place you usually choose to visit if you are keen on seeing some big city attractions. Waco is a little over a half hour's drive away, and perhaps your best shot for seeing some places of interest. Waco has wineries, farmers markets, amazing eateries, small art galleries, and retail spots too.
The Waco Suspension Bridge is the largest attraction in town and the oldest standing suspension bridge in all of Texas. The bridge was built by the same firm that built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, but these days it is only a pedestrian bridge no longer used for vehicular traffic. Both sides of the river are adorned with incredible statues and monuments to cap off an amazing experience.
