Floresville is a mid-sized community on the outskirts of theSan Antonio metropolitan area that is popular with travelers who want to get away from the fast-paced life of the city. When you book an RV in Floresville, you can easily make day trips to attractions in San Antonio, or you can choose to stay on its outskirts and enjoy the tranquil country atmosphere there. San Antonio is not connected to Floresville via any public transportation routes so you’ll need to drive your RV rental into the city if you want to experience the attractions there.
Despite its smaller size, Floresville has a long history that ties in with Spanish settlement in what is now the American Southwest. Much of that history has been retained in the architecture of its buildings, with the downtown area having such a distinctly Texas look that filmmakers Robert Redford and Steven Spielberg have both shot movies there.
On a hot summer day, there’s nowhere better to cool off than Calaveras Lake, located about halfway between Floresville and San Antonio. It’s mostly popular with anglers, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take a dip in its cool waters. There are quite a few tables around the lake, so make a day of it and have a picnic.
If you take a day trip into San Antonio, don’t miss its famed River Walk, which extends for 15 miles along the San Antonio River. The trail visits five of the city’s historic Spanish missions and is lined with interesting shops, delicious restaurants, and a number of public art installations. This is one of the best strolls to take when you have a motorhome rental near Floresville.
While it is a bit of a drive from Floresville, one of the most interesting sites in central Texas has to be Waco Mammoth National Monument near Waco. The remains of 24 massive Columbian Mammoths were found in the area and were put on display to educate the public about the ancient mammals. While nearly all of the country's 117 national monuments are outside, Waco Mammoth is unique in that its building was constructed around the dig site, allowing visitors to explore this amazing piece of paleontology free from the elements.

Another option is Holiday RV Park, near Highway 97, near the town of Sutherland Springs. They also have full hookups, laundry facilities, and the added advantage of being close to a golf course. If you’re hoping to hit the links when you rent an RV here, Holiday RV Park might be the place for you.
If you’d prefer to stay closer to the interstate, Crosstimber RV Park, southwest of town on Highway 97, could be a great choice for you. The park offers weekly and monthly rates and provides full hookups, laundry facilities, and a clubhouse for lounging. If you want quick access to the freeway between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, this is the campground for you.
There’s also the option of staying in the parking lot of the local Walmart with the Floresville campervan rental. You’ll need to ask for the manager’s permission before setting up, but it’s not a bad place to stay if you don’t mind amenity-free camping.
Floresville doesn’t have too many attractions of its own, just a small downtown area that can be explored on foot in under an hour. This is where most of the restaurants are, consisting of diners, fast food, and Mexican restaurants, along with some limited shopping. For fine dining and malls, you’ll need to go into San Antonio. There is one small movie theater downtown, the Arcadia Theater, which shows first-run films.
Those that are into agrotourism won’t want to miss the nearby olive orchard, just a short drive to the west of Floresville. The unique climate of southern Texas makes for a fantastic place to grow the tasty little fruits, and you can see how they’re transformed into oil, soaps, and other products on a tour of their facilities. It should come as no surprise that the orchard has a restaurant with excellent Mediterranean food.
If you’re a motorsports fan, you might want to check out I-37 Speedway when you get a camper rental in Floresville. It’s quite small compared to tracks like San Antonio Raceway and doesn’t attract the same quality of drivers, but it’s still a lot of fun watching local drivers and seeing how their neighbors come out to support them.
