Cooper is a city in and the county seat of Delta County. It was established at roughly the same time as Delta County, in 1870, and has been an agricultural and shipping center for most of its history. The city grew rapidly since its creation, especially after the arrival of a railway line, and continued to do so into the early 20th century. In 1926, however, the town's economy was devastated by the loss of a cotton crop, and the railroad and other businesses were forced to close. The town suffered a large population drop, and although it began to recover in the 1930s, it never recovered fully. Cotton continued to be an important crop into the 1970s when it was replaced as the main crop by wheat. Today Cooper still relies on wheat and agriculture, in general, to keep its economy going.

Search for an RV in Delta County, and you will have your choice from a fleet of RV makes and models perfectly suited to the Texas outdoors. Other towns and communities are also worth exploring while you are here. Paris commissioned and built a replica of the French Eiffel Tower in 1993; when a second replica was built in Paris, Tennessee, the Texan city placed a giant red cowboy hat on theirs. Clarksville was created in 1833 by James Clark and became the county seat of Red River County when the county was created two years later. Mount Pleasant is the location of one of the largest outdoor Dr. Pepper murals in the U.S.

Commerce is home to a satellite campus of Texas A&M University; the campus was built in 1894. Whitewright was settled in 1878 in the path of a developing railroad, which, along with the rich farmland, attracted farmers and settlers in large numbers. Your Cooper travel trailer rental is your introduction to the great state of Texas and all that it has to offer.

The Great Outdoors

Caddo National Grasslands is a multi-use outdoor area providing space for cattle to graze, wildlife habitats, and outdoor recreation for the public. The park is open year-round and is comprised of both developed and undisturbed areas. It is a popular destination for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Hunting and fishing are allowed with the necessary permits, and camping is also allowed; hunters are requested to wear orange fluorescent vests, and it is suggested that hikers do the same during hunting season. Outdoor enthusiasts can look for coyotes and bobcats, white-tailed deer, and numerous other animal species.

Pat Mayse State Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is an undisturbed wildlife refuge located near the Pat Mayse Reservoir. It consists of small ponds and lakes, open fields, and hardwood timber stands. Hiking is possible on the park trails and logging roads, but the primary and most common use is for hunting. Visitors should bring bottled water and note that there are no restrooms and no staff on-site. Keep your Cooper camper rental nearby, and you can relax in comfort between outings or when you're done for the day.

Cooper Lake State Park is centered around Cooper Lake, a human-made lake that was constructed in the mid to late 1980s. It was built to control flooding in the area, but its creation also allowed for supplying water to towns in the area and for outdoor recreation. The area consists of tall grass prairies and post oak savannah ecosystems, and it is home to a wide variety of plant and animal life. Anglers have an opportunity to catch blue and channel catfish, Florida largemouth bass, crappie, and other fish species. It has become one of the most popular fishing destinations in recent years.
