Settled in 1850s, the town officially took on the name, Colleyville, in honor of one of its prominent citizens, Doctor Lilburn Colley. Though a small, quiet town, it seems to attract athletes and notable people, particularly PGA golfers, such as Greg Chalmers, Ryan Palmer, and Chad Campbell. Demi Lovato, an actress, and singer, and Christian Ponder of Minnesota Vikings also are residents.

The closest large town is Fort Worth, about 15 miles to the southeast. Arlington, which is where Six Flags over Texas is located, is just under 20 miles to the south. Dallas, Ft. Worth’s “sister city” is about 30 miles to the southeast.

The Great Outdoors

When you rent an RV in Colleyville, you’ll likely want to visit some of the remaining pockets of wilderness in the area for fresh air and fun in the sun. Although true wilderness is fast disappearing from the Dallas Metro area, pockets still remain. The Grapevine Lake, about 8,000 acres, is a wonderful location for fishing, recreational boating, camping, hiking and much more. There is also a floating water park, located near Meadowmere Park; it’s one of the largest in Texas at 25,000 square feet. There are slides, trampolines, and an obstacle course.

The lake has boat ramps and launch pads at several different spots on the coast, and most are available for public use. There are three marinas available, and the Silver Lake Marina has boat rentals, including jet skis, pontoons, kayaks, and ski boats. Largemouth, smallmouth, white and spotted bass, channel and blue catfish, and white crappie are abundant in this lake.

If you’re in the hunt for a quieter park, point your Colleyville luxury motorhome rental to Eagle Mountain Lake. This lake spans over 8,000 acres and has plentiful recreational activities like fishing, skiing, wakeboarding, sunbathing, and hiking. Largemouth, white and spotted bass, channel catfish, and white crappie are prevalent.

RV Parks

When you rent a motorhome in Colleyville, you’ll need someplace to call home base for a few days. Vineyard’s Campgrounds is one of the few RV campsites to receive a “A” rating from the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds. Some amenities offered here include a boat ramp and boat dock for its guests, kayak rentals, an RV dump station, and a convenience/camp store.

Northlake Village RV Park in Roanoke may fit the bill. In addition to full hookups for your RV, the park offers free WiFi, laundry facilities, a swimming pool and gym, and a bathhouse with private stalls.

Exploring the City

Although Colleyville is a quiet suburban town, there’s plenty of places to visit in your RV rental. Ripley’s Believe It Or Not features a gallery of the mysterious and weird, Louis Tussaud's Palace of Wax, a “7D” Moving Theater, a “Laserace” in which you navigate a web of lasers while a clock ticks away, and a mirror maze.

Dive into a whole another world of undersea life at the SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium, a 45,000 square foot facility. Learn about all forms of sea life from starfish to seahorses to sharks. Over 30 displays houses 5,000 species from both salt water and freshwater environments. Don't forget to ask how you can feed live stingrays or gain access to behind-the-scenes tours.

Texans love their golfing, and Colleyville is no exception. Most of the golf courses around town are member only. However, Bob Moore’s Sports Center has a driving range for the locals. The Grapevine Recreational Area has both a full course and a driving range. If you’ll be in the area for a few days, Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club has a short-term four and seven-day membership option you can take advantage of. In addition to a full course, it offers a driving range and free clinics.

Both Six Flags over Texas and Hurricane Harbor are conveniently close, and they’re popular destinations for locals and vacationers. Both parks feature rides ranging from pulse-pounding thrill rides and slides to gentler options for young children. The Hurricane Harbor is a water park; dress accordingly! Note: Both parks are closed in winters, and in spring and fall months, are open only on weekends. There are RV parking lots that can accommodate your Colleyville travel trailer rental, but space can be limited, particularly on summer weekends.

Hungry for more adventure? Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park is a one-of-a-kind Texas theme park boasts five high-intensity thrill attractions, including such rarities as the Nothin’ but Net free-fall attraction.

If it's the thrill of being in Texas that excites you, consider a camper rental in Colleyville. Enjoy the dry climate, the abundant sunshine, and a wide array of activities the state has to offer.
