Center Point is an unincorporated community in Kerr County, in the state of Texas. It began around the 1850s as an increasingly important trade center between the cities of Comfort, Kerrville (then known as Kerrsville), Bandera, and Fredericksburg. A post office from Ganahl was moved to the growing community and named Center Point (for its location on the crosshairs of the trade routes between the previously mentioned cities). Center Point remained a vital trade center until the emerging new high-speed highways passing it by reduced its strategic importance. It has incorporated at least twice in its history, passing and then quickly revoking incorporation, first in 1913 and again in the mid-1990s. Today it is one of the state's largest unincorporated communities.

Book an RV in Kerr County, and you will embark on an adventure into the heart of Texan culture and history. Other communities might also be of interest while you are there. Fredericksburg is often referred to as Fritztown by some businesses and long-term residents of German descent. Johnson City's newspaper, the Johnson City Record Courier, was founded in 1883. Boerne is home to an annual poetry festival, the Guadalupe Valley Poetry Celebration, that supports the city's library. Bandera claims to be “the Cowboy Capital of the World.” Kerrville is best known for having scenic parks lining the Guadalupe River and for its RV parks, youth summer camps, and hunting ranches. Your Center Point travel trailer rental is your invitation to explore this region and experience it first hand.

The Great Outdoors

South Llano River State Park is a wildlife reserve and recreational area; it consists of a rocky upland backcountry and a pecan grove river bottom. There are a wide variety of bird and animal species that reside in the park, making this a choice destination for photographers and observers. Some species you might see are nine-banded armadillos and porcupines, although in the backcountry you might spot the porcupines eating leaves up in the trees. Visitors can hike or bike in the park; trail difficulty ranges from easy in the lowlands to moderate in the backcountry. Visitors can also swim, geocache, or try other pastimes. Keep your Center Point RV trailer rental nearby and you can shower and refresh, or enjoy a snack between activities.

Lost Maples State Natural Area is a nature preserve that allows some recreational activity. It is a scenic area with abundant wildflowers, towering canyon walls, and the Sabinal River. Visitors can hike any of the numerous trails, go fishing or birdwatching, and more. Campers will have an opportunity to stargaze and hunt for geocaches. The park is a haven for Uvalde bigtooth maple trees, which are endangered; visitors are asked not to wander off the designated trails, as foot traffic can damage the maple tree's shallow and sensitive roots.

Hill Country State Natural Area is a former ranch that has been restored to its earlier natural setting. Visitors to the area can go hiking, mountain bike riding, or horseback riding on any of the multi-use trails (but guests must have their own horses or make arrangements for a horseback tour of the area). Camping is allowed at any of the walk or hike-in campsites. It is also an ideal location for nature and wildlife observation and photography.

RV Parks

Available activities and amenities include a mountain bike trail and boat ramp, a swimming pool, and exceptional wildlife viewing. Individual sites include electrical outlets; some have trees for shade, and some have pull-through access. There are plenty of grass areas throughout, and some cabins are available for rent.

Antler Oaks Lodge and RV Resort is a country RV campground with restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a dog run area. Individual sites have full hookups; some have gravel pads, and some have picnic tables. All guests are welcome to use the immense grand lodge, which has a wrap-around porch, seating areas, and a library. There is an on-site store; the park also has some cabins for rent.

Exploring The City

There are many things to see and do in Center Point and the surrounding area. Those who are spiritually oriented will enjoy a sculpture prayer garden, while those who enjoy spirits in liquid form will find a haven at any of the local vineyards, wineries, and distilleries. There are museums and monuments honoring the local history, antique stores to browse through, and art galleries celebrating today's culture and its artistic representations. There is a singing wind park, with gravel trails for both hiking and mountain biking. Don't forget to take your Center Point RV rental for a spin on one (or several) of the local highways while you have the chance; RV vacations were made for exploring the open road.

When dinner comes calling, Center Point answers back with a long list of locally owned and operated restaurant venues. One local restaurant has developed an underground garden where they grow many of their own vegetables and water their plants using collected rainwater. Guests dining here should try the onion rings and the patty melt burger. You can also order takeout and head back to your Center Point luxury RV rental to dine out under the stars.
