About halfway between Houston and Austin lies the small town of Brenham, Texas. While not as well known as some of the larger cities in the state, there’s a lot to be said for choosing to book an RV in Brenham: fascinating history, delicious regional wines, and of course, the nationally renowned Blue Bell ice cream company is headquartered here. A visit is sure to be filled with small town charm and the chance for adventure as you explore the wonderful countryside with your Brenham RV rental.

However, it should be noted that the town doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to public transportation, so you’ll probably need to drive your Brenham motorhome rental to the attractions that you want to visit nearby. However most of the sites in town are within walking distance of the city center, so you don’t really need to drive once you’re there.

Discover Brenham

Getting Outside near Brenham

The Antique Rose Emporium is the ideal place to enjoy a quiet stroll through nature, with its colorful blossoms and well-manicured walking paths. If you’re eying a good picnic spot or a place for the kids to run off some energy though, Hohlt Park, on the far north end of town, is the place to be.

However, they say everything’s bigger in Texas, and more than anything that applies to outdoor recreation; getting a Brenham camper rental is a great way to explore all that this region of Texas has to offer. Waco Mammoth National Monument near Waco is also just a two-hour drive to the north and has some of the best preserved mammoth fossils in the country. The museum actually encloses a dig site so you can see the mammoth bones as they were found. If sand and surf is more your style though, the beaches of Galveston are calling your name and are only 120 miles to the southeast.

RV Parks near Brenham

As Brenham is not a major tourist destination, there aren’t as many RV parks as you might find near more popular cities. That being said, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a site for your Brenham travel trailer rental at the parks nearby and you can also rest assured that they’ll be relatively quiet.

Some of Brenham’s closest campsites can be found at Artesian Park RV Campground, a few miles to the west. The park has laundry facilities, a playground, and a rec hall with ping-pong tables and dartboards. If you’re willing to stay a little farther out and prefer a natural setting, Lake Somerville State Park and Yegua Creek Campground are both options. Both are located a little less than half an hour’s drive from Brenham and sit on the shores of Somerville Lake.

When traveling to surrounding destinations, it’s best to fuel up your motorhome rental in Brenham at the town’s truck stop. The pumps are a bit more spacious so you won’t have as much trouble maneuvering around. You can also park the Brenham rental camper for a night or two at Walmart on the south side of town, though be sure to call ahead to confirm your stay.

Exploring the Town of Brenham

Being close to Houston and Austin, most people choose to just pass through on their way to one or the other. However, Brenham has plenty of places to entertain visitors if they just know where to look.

One of the best places to learn about Brenham is at the Heritage Museum, which houses artifacts from the area’s history. Civil War trinkets stand alongside antique cameras and are carefully curated to tell the story of Brenham. However, to get a literal taste of local culture, check out the Blue Bell Creamery and museum. You can take a factory tour from the comfort of a glass-walled catwalk above the ice cream-making floor. While learning how it’s made is interesting, nothing beats the end of the tour where you can have a bowl of their signature ice cream.

If antique shopping is your thing, stop by one of the antique shops in the area. An hour or so at one of them will feel like a treasure hunt, searching for the most unique things to take home as souvenirs of your travels.

Come evening you’ll be searching for some entertainment though, and your first stop should be at the Unity Theatre. Their live theater performances are a treat for any fan of the arts, so check their schedule to see what’s happening during your visit. For a good drink though, head to the brewery in town, which produces some of the finest suds this side of Houston. They also have quite a few games to play while you enjoy their tasty ales.
