Spread over close to 1,200 acres is Fort Loudoun State Historic Area in Monroe County, about 19 miles from Sweetwater. Explore this area rich in history. It served as one of the earliest British fortifications on the western front. Activities at the historic park include hiking through moderate trails that loop around, paddling and kayaking, fishing in Tellico Lake, and bird watching. The lake is an active spot for shorebirds, bald eagles, and osprey.
