Nearly halfway between the cities of Greenville, and the state capital Columbia, Prosperity is a little southern slice of heaven in South Carolina. Although it was once referred to as Frog Level, the original settlers sought to manifest happiness and success into their lives by naming the village Prosperity.

True to its name, Prosperity has a thriving business district despite its small size, with numerous locally owned businesses, restaurants, shops, and cafes. This proud community has a heritage that stretches back into the 19th century, with lots of historical buildings and structure in town adequately reflecting this.

When you search for an RV in Prosperity, you don’t have to simply settle for staying in one place, so this lovely town can serve as your home base while you tour through different state parks and cities in the region. Columbia is about a half an hour's drive east when you rent an RV, so everything you need is essentially within reach.

Discover Prosperity

Explore the Outdoors

People enjoy touring through the scenic countryside of South Carolina in a Prosperity RV rental due to the sheer number of parks, forests, and recreation areas that you can encounter in the different areas within the state. Fortunately, you don’t have to wander to find some exceptional outdoor spaces, making your vacation that much easier to plan. You can head off to places like Dreher Island State Park to the south, and soak in some stunning views of Lake Murray. The park occupies an entire island all to itself, giving travelers a great place to swim, hike, boat, and camp with their Prosperity motorhome rental. There are other villas and cabins to rent for those that don’t have a tent or an RV, as well as some wonderful fishing areas where you can catch trout, bass, and a variety of other fish.

Lake Greenwood State Park is another lakeside gem where you can enjoy some peace and quiet on the beaches of Lake Greenwood. There is a collection of historical structures located on-site, like old boathouses, terraces, water fountains, and picnic shelters. There is an RV campground that you can use with the Prosperity travel trailer rental and a great museum that focuses on the Civilian Conservation Corps, a group that was instrumental in the creation of most public state and national parks during the first half of the 20th century.

Up north by Spartanburg, check out Croft State Park, a fabulous nature park that was once a military base and prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. The park is popular for a variety of reasons, with guests happily participating in several activities like hiking, geocaching, skeet shooting, fishing, birdwatching, and mountain biking. There is a park store where guests can by food and supplies, a lengthy bicycle path, a playground, and several picnic shelters to enjoy a nice, relaxing meal in nature.

On the other side of Columbia, you also have the option of bringing your Prosperity RV rental to Congaree National Park, one of the only national parks in the entire region. Only around 20,000 acres comprise this epic riverfront paradise, and you can hike through riparian habitats, wetlands, swamps, mangrove forests, and some of the most sublime temperate deciduous forests in the country. Over half of the park is made up of designated wilderness areas for adventurers looking to fully immerse themselves in nature. Unfortunately, there are no RV campgrounds in the park, but you can still enjoy a day in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

RV Parks to Visit

You won’t need to search far and wide for camping accommodations for you and your Prosperity luxury motorhome rental while you are in town; there are dozens of suitable options within a 30-minute drive. City Sightseeing

Prosperity has its fair share of interesting features and attractions, although you might have more success traveling to Columbia to see the big city when you rent an RV. If you opt to stay in and around town, the downtown business district is a bustling city center benefitting from a bevy of wineries, breweries, cafes, shops, and restaurants with Southern comfort food and barbecue. Several buildings in town are designated historic landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places, like the Howard Junior High School, Prosperity Cemetery, and the Jacob Bedenbaugh House. The Jacob Bedenbaugh House was built around the time of the Civil War over 150 years ago and showcases old building styles.

The neighboring town of Newberry is the county seat for Newberry County and home to some more historic sites and points of interest too. The Old Courthouse and the Newberry Opera House are both lovely, antiquated buildings refurbished and restored to their former glory. The Newberry Opera House was reopened after being restored, proudly bringing national and regional acts to a locally significant stage to bolster the local arts scene while fostering a passion for the theater. The decadent Old Courthouse has Doric columns and old Greek architectural style adorning its front facade. This masterpiece was built in 1853 and still stands as a testament to the past.

The Wells Japanese Garden is yet another suitable option for those hoping to explore some tranquil gardens with peaceful vibes and East Asian influences. You can meditate while you stroll through this charming park, and delight in the Japanese-style bridges and pagodas in the ornamental garden.
