Originally a part of Wrightstown Township and Buckingham Township, the area had settlers who farmed the lands in late 1600s. A cluster of homes was built around the intersection of what is now the Forest Grove Road and Mill Creek Road. This village was called Lingohocken, a Lenape name that stuck with the locals. When the Northeast Pennsylvania Railroad built a station in late 1890 and named it Wycombe, the town grew to a few hundred people. They subsequently formed a separate town and adopted the name, Wycombe.

The closest large town is Doylestown, about seven miles to west. The next largest city, Philadelphia, lies less than 40 miles to the southwest.

The Great Outdoors

When you rent an RV in Wycombe, you likely want to explore the great outdoors from the comforts of your newfound home. There are several small parks in this part of Pennsylvania for you to explore. For a little more elbow room, consider Tyler State Park.

Tyler State Park, a few miles southeast near Newtown, encompasses nearly 2,000 acres of old growth woods and bright meadows. There are several miles of maintained trails, some paved, and others dirt. Horses are allowed on the non-paved trails (as are hikers). Though shallow boats are allowed in the Neshaminy Creek, the creek’s water level can get low in summers and during the drier years. If you’re not inclined to go wading to catch fish, fishing from the banks is a-okay. Smallmouth bass, carp, black crappie, and sunfish are plentiful, especially after the spring snowmelt.

The fun continues year-round. Cross-country skiing, ice-skating, sledding, and ice-fishing are all popular wintertime activities. At various times during the year, locals and the local governments hold events in the park, like theater plays, concerts, and festivals.

Nockamixon State Park, located to the north is a larger park; combined with the adjacent state game land, it offers over 10,000 acres of rolling hills and woods. Over 30 miles of multi-use trails serpentine through mature woods and fresh, airy meadows. This park is horse-friendly so bring those beauties along! There are small holding pens that can be used temporarily while you park the trailer (overnight stays are not permitted). A large lake stretches out the entire length of the park and is rife with a few species of bass, channel catfish, and others. If you don’t own any fishing gear or have left them at home, the park lends out rods with photo identification.

RV Parks

When you book a motorhome rental in Wycombe, you’ll need someplace to park overnight. Most options are to the north, in or near Quakertown, minutes away from Nockamixon. One such example is Tohickon Family Campgrounds, which offers the usual amenities like full hookups and showers. Tohickon Creek curves around the perimeter of the property, and many RV lots have waterfront access. Wake up in the morning, step out the front door, and catch your breakfast!

Alternatively, Deer Woods Campgrounds in Pipersville, operated by Bucks County, is a more rustic, old-school campgrounds. Though they have a dump site and restrooms, there is little else in the way of luxuries. Two caveats, though: all motorhomes must be under 25 feet, and camper trailers must be under 18 feet. Pets are prohibited, also.

Exploring the city

In this neck of the woods, it’s tempting to think there isn’t much to do. On the contrary! There are several historic landmarks in the area, and a big swath of the town are designated historic. Several homes and structures built in the styles of quaint Queen Anne, Craftsman, Tudor, Victorian, and bungalows dot the town. Most homes were built during late 1800s, but there are homes like the Carver-Slack Homestead that dates back to the late 1700s. Nearby, General John Lacy Homestead likewise dates back to late 1700s.

While in the area consider a tour throughout the countryside in your luxury motorhome rental from Wycombe. Several farmhouses and barns in the surrounding area are historic, dating back to mid-1800s. Pennsylvania is well known for its covered and iron bridges, and a notable one is the Murray-Dougal Iron Bridge in Point Pleasant, which is still used for river crossings today.

Nearby, the Van Sant Airport in Erwinna is a small grass-strip airport where you can get rides in antique biplanes and prop planes (restored and updated to modern standards), glider lessons, and hot-air balloon rides. Note that there are passenger number and weight restrictions.

Wrap up a fun day of sightseeing and adventure by visiting one of the local pubs. The Wycombe Publick House was built on top of an older pub that burned down at some point in late 1800s. The Publick House dishes up classic pub fare like burgers and sandwiches. The “Porchetta,” which is a slow-roasted pork on a long roll is a local favorite. Park your Wycombe camper rental here and enjoy a great meal with the family.

If wines are your preference, try the Wycombe Vineyard and Winery, which is a nearly 100-years-old winery. In addition to the traditional European-style wines, the winery also makes a delicious dandelion wine that was born during the Prohibition era. The winery has a tasting room for visitors Fridays through Sundays.

Should you be seeking a lovely, quaint Pennsylvania town known for its mild, occasionally humid climate, gentle rolling hills, and deep woods where deer frolic, consider a travel trailer rental in Wycombe. Explore some local culture, enjoy the local cuisine, watch a sunrise, and enjoy the jaw-dropping landscape. Rent an RV in Wycombe and set out on an outstanding outdoor recreational adventure!
