The site of one of the first iron mine and forges in the US, Spring Grove, PA was founded in 1747. Later, one of the first paper mills in the US was established in the town, in 1851, and the mill used to produce paper is still functional today (though the technology has been updated since then). Several homes in Spring Grove’s Historic District are on the National Register of Historic Places.
The closest large town is York, about 10 miles to the northwest. Further past York, you will find Harrisburg is 35 miles to the north. Gettysburg is about 25 miles west with Baltimore being a little over 50 miles to the south.
Rent an RV in Spring Grove and enjoy a bounty of outdoor recreational activities in the area. Codorus State Park is just a few minutes away and is open to the public year-round. Encompassing 3,500 acres, it’s a popular retreat for visitors and locals in the southern York area. A small lake allows for scuba diving, sailing, kayaking, and fishing. For a taste of wilderness and solitude, head west to the Michaux State Forest. One of the largest in south-central Pennsylvania, fishing, primitive camping, hiking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling are just a few of the many activities enjoyed at this park. Both deer and small-game hunting are permitted here, though you must obtain a license and follow the regulations. This park has several small lakes and ponds peppered throughout its borders, where fishermen can try their hand at fly fishing. There are over 130 miles of trails in this park alone. RV camping is allowed, though you must obtain a free permit from the ranger in advance.
When you rent an RV in Spring Grove, you’ll need someplace to park it overnight or for the week. Close to York, Indian Rock Campground is equipped with full hookups for your RV, showers and laundry facilities, and an RV store. Leashed pets are allowed so bring Fido along.
Also conveniently close to York is Ben Franklin RV Park, which features 10/30/50 amps, free WiFi, showers, laundry facilities, and a patio area located by a small waterfall.
Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, which is situated on a working farm, is another option. Since petting the farm animals is encouraged the kids will have a grand time . An array of features are included, such as a swimming pool, laundry facilities, and a play area for children. Be mindful that, as this is a working farm, the smell of fertilizer will be strong at certain times of the year.

Spring Grove’s central location makes it an ideal place to set off an explore a number of nearby spots, like Gettysburg, Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, and northern Maryland. If you’re up for a long drive, hop into your Spring Grove motorhome rental and swing by Hershey.

Pennsylvania is rich in history, so you history buffs will absolutely love visiting historic Gettysburg Park, which is where President Lincoln made his famous Gettysburg Address, and of course, the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.
Lancaster, east of the Susquehanna River, is where several Amish communities make their home. Though most are private and reclusive, a few have opened their doors to the public. There are bus tours that will take you on the backroads through Amish communities, sharing information about their lives and answering questions. The gently rolling farm country is also a great terrain for golf courses. Relax after a day of outdoor adventure by hitting the links. Little Creek Golf Course is open to the public, and in addition to a full 18-hole course, it also rents out golf clubs and carts.
