Just north of the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line, the community of Railroad, Pennsylvania is a homey, down-to-earth community that also showcases the calmness of southern Pennsylvania life. Railroad’s history begins with the North Central Railway, a railroad that ran from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Baltimore, Maryland. Railroad is almost exactly at the halfway point between these two cities, so a depot developed in the area to help the train along. Today, visitors to Railroad can enjoy a quiet retreat from the rest of the world as they indulge in some local cooking and explore the beautiful world of southern Pennsylvania.

When you book an RV in York County, you are opening up not only the Chesapeake Bay region but the hills and forests of southern Pennsylvania, to your exploration. You will be within just a short drive of so much of what makes the Mid-Atlantic the wonderful destination that it is. Who knows, you may find yourself eating crab and catching fireflies every summer night.

If you’d rather stay dry, you can hike the trails of varying difficulty and explore the area on foot. With some of the best birding in southern Pennsylvania, be sure to stay quiet - who knows what you may spot.

You can take the Railroad camper rental on a short drive north to the William Kain Park near York, Pennsylvania. At William Kain, visitors can enjoy strolling around the two lakes, Lake Williams and Lake Redman, fishing on the lakes, or even renting a canoe or kayak to head out on the water. The park is also home to 12 miles of multi-use trails that welcome hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. If you want to get in touch with nature a little bit more, you can head out on the boardwalk. Leading over Lake Redman, the boardwalk allows visitors to travel over the backwaters of the lake and also get close to some known migratory nesting sites.

Just south, over the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line, is the Prettyboy Reservoir Park near Parkton, Maryland. The most important thing to remember is that while Prettyboy Reservoir is, in fact, very pretty, you cannot swim in it. You can, however, enjoy a leisurely stroll around the edges of the reservoir and take in the picturesque scenery around you. Additionally, if you fancy yourself a bit of an outdoor enthusiast, Prettyboy Reservoir has some of the best hunting grounds in northern Maryland. You can hunt for every game species as long as you have a local permit, which you can easily secure online.
