The original Charter granting a huge swath of land to William Penn, the man known for creating Pennsylvania, includes Kintnersville. It’s unknown how exactly Kintnersville came by its name, but the local lore says a man named George Ginter was the first settler, and his surname was bastardized over time.

The small town thrived on upriver traffic, particularly when the Pennsylvania Canal was built, connecting Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. That resulted in an influx of travelers moving up north from Philadelphia to Easton. In those days, boats had to be towed by mules or ox upriver, and travel was exceedingly slow. Taking to the road was not possible because there were very few at the time. As a result of the new northbound traffic, settlements saw a boom in business growth, and homes and businesses sprang up.

In 1955, two hurricanes within a two-weeks-span swept up the east coast, and with them brought massive storm surges. The tiny town of Kintnersville, PA was all but wiped out, and several people perished in the floods. The town eventually recovered, though.

The closest large town is Easton, about 10 miles to north.

The Great Outdoors

You likely want to take advantage of renting an RV by hitting the outdoors for fun and adventures. There are several parks in the area, offering a huge array of activities. The Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary is a small park that perches atop a hill. It has an incredible view of the Delaware River 300 feet below. In springtime and early summers, the local expert leads nature walks, educating the public on local wildlife and plants. Bird lovers will adore this park. Several species of birds are known to make their nests here, including warblers, orioles, flycatchers, tanagers, thrushes, and several others.

Over 60 miles of walking and biking paths stretches along the Delaware River. These paths are a part of the Delaware Canal State Park. There are simple boat launches at various points along the trail, providing easy access to the Delaware River for kayaking and canoeing. Motorized boats are permitted on the river, as well, though some ramps are not well maintained. Many marinas along the rivers allow the public to use their boat launches (for a fee). The river contains mostly warm-water fish, like the American Shad, smallmouth bass, striped bass, and walleye. Fish from the banks or from your boats.

The fun doesn’t stop in winter. This trail is popular with cross-country skiers, and the small ponds often freeze up, providing an excellent surface for ice skaters. Though rare, when the Delaware River freezes up, locals and out-of-towners will hit the ice for ice skating, ice sailing, racing, and fishing. There are plenty of parking along the Delaware River Trail large enough to accommodate your Kintnersville motorhome rental.
