King of Prussia is located on the eastern edge of Pennsylvania, not far from the city of Philadelphia. The town’s rather unique name comes from the King of Prussia Inn, a tavern that was established there during the Colonial Era. Today it is most well known for being a suburban shopping destination for residents of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, thanks to its eponymously named mall.

King of Prussia is well connected with downtown Philadelphia as buses leave from near the mall multiple times per hour. Using public transportation is a great way to see the city when you book an RV in King of Prussia without worrying about the traffic or parking situation in densely populated Philadelphia.

The Great Outdoors

Valley Forge National Historical Park is one of the most popular parks with residents of the King of Prussia area. The park stands as a monument to General George Washington’s encampment along the Schuylkill River in the winter of 1777. The massive park contains a number of historical sites including a recreated log cabin barracks that Washington’s soldiers would have slept in. There’s also a large network of trails to explore if you feel like doing some hiking.

Norristown Farm Park is another excellent option for spending some time outside when you get a travel trailer rental in King of Prussia. Many of the buildings on the farm date back to colonial times and showcase the interesting agricultural history of eastern Pennsylvania. There are also ample opportunities for jogging, hiking, and cycling along the farm’s many pathways, and fishing in its stocked trout stream.

You might also enjoy the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia, which is owned by the University of Pennsylvania. The magnificently well-kept gardens are meant to promote an understanding of nature and its importance to humanity. The gardens are also home to a variety of beautiful gazebos, arches, and statues that are designed to inspire the residents of the Philadelphia area. You can spend all day here exploring the many trails and the park’s diverse flora and fauna.

RV Parks

The suburban neighborhoods around here don’t have too many RV parks so you’ll need to camp a little bit farther away when you get an RV trailer rental in King of Prussia. One of the closest parks is the Philadelphia/West Chester KOA a little way to the south of the city. They have amenities including full hookups for your motorhome rental in King of Prussia, along with a swimming pool that’s open during the summer months, a dog park, and a fishing pond. It’s also fairly close to Philly if you’re thinking about making a trip into the big city.

Another option is the Brandywine Creek Campground just off Interstate 76. This spot could be a good choice if you’d prefer a more naturalistic setting when you book a camper rental near King of Prussia. The campground sits next to the beautiful Marsh Creek State Park and Reservoir. There are some great hiking trails around the reservoir, and a swimming pool is also available. The park itself has full hookups, laundry facilities, and a playground for the little ones to burn off some excess energy.

If you just need a place to park, you can head to the Walmart near the King of Prussia Mall; it's best to get the manager’s permission before setting up camp.

Exploring the City

No doubt the top experience in King of Prussia is visiting the massive mall. It’s one of the largest shopping centers in the U.S., and you’ll find nearly all of the major name brand retailers there, along with several big discount stores. When you get hungry, their food court has an overwhelming variety of choices and is home to several dozen eateries.

Shopping aside, King of Prussia has some great attractions including several interesting historical sites. The Chanticleer Estate in nearby Wayne is a turn-of-century home transformed into a massive formal garden. If you need a place to relax and reflect when you choose a camper rental in King of Prussia, this is a good place to go for a few hours of peace and quiet.

There’s also the American Treasure Tour Museum in the nearby town of Oaks, which features a vast collection of vintage automobiles, miniature circuses, and artifacts of 20th-century pop culture. It might seem like a random mishmash of things, but only at first. Taken together, the collection of items paint a wonderful portrait of America and a culture that is at risk of being forgotten.
