Located between the cities of Scranton and Allentown, the city of Hazleton was first established in 1809 when Jacob Drumheller built a rest stop on the intersection of the Warrior Trail and the road connecting Wilkes-Barre and McKeansburg. Little else happened until 1818 when coal was discovered in the area, a railroad was constructed, and the town grew in prosperity. Warriors Trail has since been paved, and the path has become Pennsylvania Route 93.

Local folklore states that the town was supposed to be called Hazelton, but the clerk misspelled it during incorporation and wrote Hazleton by mistake! The town is in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains which offer a range of outdoor pursuits including skiing in the winter months.

Golf is a favorite pastime in the area, and you’ll find over thirty courses in north-eastern Pennsylvania, all within easy reach when you book an RV in Luzerne County. If big city lights are your thing, then head on over to the larger city of Philadelphia in your motorhome from Hazleton.

Discover Hazleton

The Great Outdoors

Covering an area of 2,500 square miles, the Pocono Mountain range offers a fantastic location to vacation in your camper rental from Hazleton. It’s a well known outdoor recreation area which includes seven state parks alone.

The closet to Hazleton is Lehigh Gorge State Park which as the name suggests is a deep, steep-walled gorge following the Lehigh River. Along with 20 miles of trail for hiking or biking that follow the river, the park offers white-water rafting, and snowmobile trips during the winter. There are also plenty of sightseeing and photography opportunities, particularly at the popular Buttermilk Falls.

Covering almost 45,000 acres, the Pinchot State Forest includes the 26 mile Pinchot Trail and the easier five-mile Waters Loop Trail providing something for the seasoned hiker and family alike. Keen anglers are able to fish for trout in several of the creeks and streams flowing through the park during designated seasons, while bass, pickerel, and crappie are available in the Ceasetown Reservoir.

RV Parks

Just on the edge of the Pocono Mountains and only a short drive in an RV rental from Hazleton, you’ll find the relaxing setting of Lehigh RV Park. Laid out amongst the trees, the park’s RV sites offer full hookups, with free WiFi and cable TV if needed. The whole family will find something to do here, from leisurely fishing in the fully stocked lake, swimming in the pool, or using the children's playground facilities.

At Moyer’s Grove Campground you’ll find all the usual facilities such as full hookup sites for your RV, bathrooms and a store, plus a range of attractions. There are two lakes, one for just fishing and another for paddle boats and canoes, while the club grounds feature a basketball court, volleyball court, and a swimming pool. Plenty to keep the family busy, but just in case you need more to do, there is also a playground and mini golf course!

With wooded campsites spread around an unspoiled wilderness with rhododendron and tall pines, Red Ridge Lake Campground could be the perfect getaway. Cruise just few miles in your travel trailer from Hazleton, and you’ll be in a beautiful valley of the western Pocono’s. The campground can accept trailers up to 32 feet long and offers all the modern conveniences you’d expect, including a heated swimming pool, full hookups, and modern bathrooms.

Exploring the City

Hazleton Community Park is located in the heart of the city and with a lake and walking trail, making it a nice place to spend a few hours. Along with fishing in the lake, and a playground for the children, there are soccer fields, picnic tables, grill areas, and bathrooms that are handicapped accessible. Right next door to the park is the Laurel Mall for all your shopping needs.

As a large community, Hazleton offers a full range of fast food style restaurants to choose from, plus a wide selection of cuisines such as Italian, Mexican, and a Japanese hibachi bar.

With the long history of mining in the area, it’s no surprise to find Eckley Miners’ Village just outside the city, and easily reachable in a luxury motorhome rental from Hazleton. More than just a museum, the center brings together various original buildings from the 1850s and a modern visitor center to show the lives of 17th-century miners. The village often arranges special events with re-enactors and craft vendors, and guided tours are available.

A short drive south in your Hazleton motorhome rental you will find the town of Pottsville, home to America’s Oldest Brewery, Yuengling. Opened in 1829, when a young German called David G. Yuengling arrived from Wuerttemberg and settled in the mining town. The brewery offers free tours for all ages and of course a tasting for those old enough! Yuengling brews a range of beers from lager to ales and porters. Something for everyone to enjoy!

Should you be seeking that outdoorsy, quaint, historic Pennsylvania town for your next outdoor recreational adventure, consider a camper rental in Hazleton. Enjoy relaxing by a campfire, watch a sunset, and take in the amazing scenery. Rent an RV in Hazleton and go exploring!
