Although it’s unknown when exactly Glenmoore was founded, records show that there were Welsh Quakers living and farming in the area as early as 1717. In late 1700s and early 1800s, iron ore deposits were discovered, and the area became an important source of iron for the early Pennsylvania civilization. Today, there are a handful of “century farms,” farms that have been owned by the same families for generations. One such example is Century Oaks Farm, which has been owned by the Guest family since 1735.

Today, Glenmore, PA is still a tiny town, to the extent that their claim to fame is they have the “smallest church in the world.” The downtown area consists of that church, an antique shop, and a convenience/deli shop. Though none of the homes in the town are registered on the National Register of Historic Places, most are historic, dating back to early 1800s. There are several charming Queen Anne, Tudor, Victorian, and other craftsman-style homes, complete with the original finials and decorative details common to the homes at the time. Ignore the modern amenities like power lines and automobiles, and it’s easy to imagine what it would’ve been like to live in the area 200 years ago.

The closest large town is Downingtown, about 10 miles south.

The Great Outdoors

A common reason to book a RV in Glenmore is to enjoy the outdoors from the comforts of a temporary home. No roughing it necessary. Pennsylvania is well known for its dense woods, gentle rolling hills, and endless supply of fishing streams and ponds. Marsh Creek State Park is a local favorite, not because it’s conveniently located, but that the lake is top-notch. Surrounded by hill ridges, the lake is sheltered and very calm. As a result, fishing is plentiful, and in the wintertime when the lake freezes up, the surface ice is smooth. Ice sailing and ice skating are popular. The park itself is about 2,000 acres, offering several miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding adventures. Bring your Glenmore camper rental; there’s plenty of parking. Although this park is day-use only, there are private campgrounds in the area.

For quiet and solitude, head up north to French Creek State Park. This park, when combined with the neighboring parks, makes about 70,000 acres. Over 150 miles of trails serpentine through the woods. In addition to hiking and camping, horses and bikes are welcomed here. Geocaching, photography, birdwatching, and hunting (in the appropriate seasons) are common activities in this park. When winter roars in, the locals don’t let a little cold and wet snow stop them from enjoying cross-country skiing, sledding, ice-fishing, and skating. RV-camping is a-okay. Go “glamping” in an RV rental.

RV Parks

When you book a travel trailer in Glenmore, don’t forget to find a place to park overnight. There are several private campgrounds in the area. Brandywine Creek Campgrounds, set in dense woods, is a spartan facility in Lyndell. It does offer a number of amenities like 30/50 amps hookups, a pool, and laundry facilities. The WiFi is free but may be spotty due to the trees.

Hidden Acres Campgrounds in Coatesville may be a good candidate, as well. Among many of the usual amenities, it claims to have the “world’s longest steel slide” (this claim is unconfirmed by Guinness, however!), a catch-and-release fishing pond, and an old-school arcade game room.

Exploring the City

Escape the hustle and bustle of the big city life by visiting Glenmoore. Although it’s a quiet, one-horse town, there’s plenty of things to see and do in the area. An original plantation that was originally a part of William Penn’s Manor, built in early 1700s, can be visited. Although the Springton Manor Farm is not open to visitors, the barn and museum can be toured. Guests can meet the farm animals, and learn about the tools and devices used in those times. The property itself is a mashup of colonial plantation, Victorian tenant farm, and a gentleman’s country estate.

Hop into your Glenmore motorhome rental and head into the heart of Amish Country. Most Amish communities do not allow the English to visit the farms, but the quiet countryside can be enjoyed from afar. Watch the farmers work their lands at an astounding pace with deceptively primitive tools and horse-powered devices.

Treehouse World in West Chester is a family-friendly adventure park. Children and adults can explore treehouses, zip from treetop aerie to aerie, and go flying safely tethered to bungee cords.

Explore this corner of Pennsylvania from the comforts of your Glenmore luxury motorhome rental. Enjoy a park, watch a sunset, and take in the landscape. Rent a motorhome in Glenmore, PA and go find your adventure!
