Frederick is a village located in the Upper Frederick and New Hanover Townships of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The city was one of a number of small communities that developed during the 1700s along the Great Road, which is now known as Route 73.
Search for an RV in Frederick and discover a peaceful rural countryside close to charming urban settings and only a few hours away from the nation’s bustling capital. During the 18th century, many Germanic immigrants settled in this area, which thrived from agriculture and trades such as blacksmiths, tanneries, and grist mills. Many farms still operate around this region, which is about 30 miles to Philadelphia and 15 miles to the Montgomery County seat of Norristown.
Montgomery County manages more than 6,000 acres of public open space, including nine parks and over 60 miles of regional trails. When you rent a motorhome in Frederick, set out to explore the landscape's rolling hills and valleys as well as sparkling lakes, rivers, and creeks.
The trail systems have plenty of attractive options for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. One popular path you might want to wander is the Perkiomen Trail, a 19-mile-long multi-use rail trail set along the Perkiomen Creek. It begins at the junction with the Schuylkill River Trail near the mouth of the Perkiomen and Valley Forge National Historical Park and ends in Green Lane Park.
There are 25 miles of nature trails in Green Lane to enjoy year-round by foot, bike, or horseback. When hunger strikes, pull your Frederick RV rental over and make use of the picnic tables and charcoal grills available around Deep Creek Lake and at the Hill Road Day Use Area. Fans of winter sports enjoy coming to this area for cross-country skiing, ice fishing, or ice skating.
If you’re someone who loves water recreation, Montgomery County parklands provide many opportunities for fishing, boating, stand-up paddleboarding, and more. Green Lane Park features Green Lane Reservoir, Deep Creek Lake, and Knight Lake. All three are available for fishing although only two are available for boating. You can also rent a kayak or canoe and take a relaxing cruise down the Schuylkill River, which is a great way to catch a glimpse of this area's unique wildlife and birds.
Once you have your travel trailer rental from Frederick, you’ll find quite a few places to camp out in Montgomery County. If you’re looking for a place that provides all kinds of amenities in a natural setting, the Philadelphia/West Chester KOA in Coatesville has it all: full hookups, dog park, swimming pool, boat/bike rentals, shops, and more. Plus the premises are spread along the banks of the inviting Brandywine River.

If you like learning about the past, take your camper rental from Frederick, and travel back in time by visiting the many historic sites located around Upper Frederick Township. Walk across a 125-foot long stone arch bridge in Fagleysville that dates back to 1854, or a 135-foot long bridge in Zieglerville that was built in 1888. Both cross Swamp Creek and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as are the historic John Englehardt and Conrad Grubb Homesteads. You won’t want to miss a visit to the National Historic Landmark of Henry Antes House, as well as Sunrise Mill, a grist mill complex located near Schwenksville with an attached sawmill, farmhouse, and Swiss bank barn.

While you’re roaming around in your luxury Frederick RV rental you may also want to explore the peaceful open space of historic Norristown Farm Park, hit the links at an 18-hole, par-70 golf course, or tour and taste small batch whiskeys and spirits crafted at a local distillery. Norristown is also just a short drive from King of Prussia, where you can shop-till-you-drop at the largest retail shopping mall in the United States, and also Valley Forge, the famous site of George Washington's encampment.
