In late 1600s, William Penn, who is credited with creating Pennsylvania, was awarded with a Charter that granted him a vast swath of land. He then turned around sold parcels of that land to farmers, businessmen, and other settlers. Colonel Arthur Erwin, who was the leader of the Bucks County Militia, purchased one of these parcels, and the town that sprang up on that land later became known as Erwinna.

Erwin was the supplier of boats used by General Washington and his men in the infamous Delaware Boat Crossing in 1776.

The Erwinna Covered Bridge, Riverside Farm, Stover Mill, and Isaac Stover House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The closest large town is Doylestown, about 16 miles to south.

Discover Erwinna

The Great Outdoors

When you rent an RV in Erwinna, you likely want to explore the wilderness and all the fun that comes with it without having to rough it. The nearby Delaware Canal State Park, which stretches along the Delaware River, has over 60 miles of walking and biking paths, most of it with scenic waterfront views. Fish from the banks or hit the waters and catch a variety of warm water fish like American Shad, smallmouth bass, striped bass, and walleye.

Ringing Rocks Park is a local curiosity. A tiny park at only four acres, the field is covered with boulders ring like bells when struck with a hammer. Scientists are baffled at why exactly these rocks reverberate. This park also includes a 15-foot waterfall, which is the highest in Bucks County. Nestled in serene woods, it would be a good spot for a landscape photographer.

If you seek solitude and isolation, Nockamixon State Park may fit the bill. With 10,000 acres to explore, there are over 30 miles of trails for you to explore. The Nockamixon Lake, slicing the valley in half, is stocked with smallmouth, largemouth, and hybrid striped bass, channel catfish, and more. This park has plenty of parking for trailers and motorhomes. Bring your camper rental from Erwinna and go adventuring!

RV Parks

Don’t forget to find a place to park your Erwinna motorhome rental overnight while you grab your eight hours of sleep. Choose an open space or wooded lot for your RV rental at the Beaver Valley Family Campgrounds in Ottsville, PA, which also features amenities like WiFi, two swimming pools, and access to hiking trails.

The Colonial Woods Campgrounds in Upper Black Eddy may be a good spot. They offer full hookups for your RV, restrooms, showers, and a laundry facility. As an added bonus, the campgrounds offer a catch-and-release fishing pond.

Exploring the City

Although Erwinna is a tiny town, there’s plenty of fun to be had here. Hop into your travel trailer rental from Erwinna and hit the road for a tour of the countryside. History buffs, take note: many homes, buildings, and other structures are historic, dating back to early 1700s. Though the Stover House and Riverside Farm are no longer open to public, you can still drive by on your way to the Erwinna Covered Bridge.

Pennsylvania is well known for its covered bridges, and unfortunately due to extreme age, lack of maintenance and care, a majority have been torn down over the years. Be sure to check out other covered bridges in the area while you can. The nearby bridges are in Perkasie, Van Sant (near Wycombe), Uhlerstown, Knecht's, and Frankenfield.

The Stover Mill is a charming fieldstone structure overlooking the Delaware River. It has been an art gallery for over 60 years, featuring local and regional artists. Their gallery primarily include oils, but they also feature other mediums.

Want to get away from it all? Go high. Sky high. There are several hot air balloon companies in the area. Get a birds-eye view of the rolling Pennsylvania-New Jersey landscape, and enjoy the slow pace. A hot air balloon ride is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you won’t forget.

It might surprise you to learn that Pennsylvania is very well suited for vineyards. Grapes seem to love the mild, occasionally humid climate and thrive. Visit one of the nearby vineyards, like the Sand Castle Winery, which specializes in Vitis Vinifera, a specific type of grape that comes from European stock. Though they have an array of whites and reds, their house speciality is their Chardonnay and Riesling. The vineyard has a tasting room open to the public daily (check online for the hours), and reservations are available for private tours.

Should it be the Pennsylvania small-town charm and friendly locals you are seeking, consider a motorhome rental in Erwinna. Enjoy the local cuisine, indulge in the vineyards, watch a sunset, and bask in the landscape. Rent an RV in Erwinna, PA and go exploring!
