Dresher was not officially incorporated until the mid-1900s. However, there were a number of farmers and miners in the area dating as far back as late 1600. Dresher is just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike (a toll road), and its central location in the suburbs of Philadelphia makes it an ideal place to visit. It’s close to routes 309 and 611, which are convenient arteries into downtown Philadelphia.

The closest large town is Philadelphia, about 18 miles to the south. Allentown is a little over 40 miles north, and Reading (pronounced as “red-ding”) is 60 miles west.

The Great Outdoors

Rent an RV in Dresher and hit the outdoors for adventure and fun! In spite of being in the Philadelphia suburbs, there are several pockets of wilderness nearby. Wissahickon Valley Park, which looks deceptively small on a map, is a 1,800-acre gorge. Over 50 miles of multiuse trails travel through woods and meadows, occasionally crossing the Wissahickon Creek, which winds through the park. The idyllic babbling creek sets a nice ambient mood for the hikers.

Leap from boulder to boulder and strike them with a hammer to hear them ring like a bell. Bring your family and friends to the Ringing Rocks Park and orchestrate a song. The Ringing Rocks Park is one of the few sites in the world where rocks are literally musical. There is also a few miles of a hiking trail that leads to a small waterfall.

Ridley Creek State Park, south of Philadelphia, is a small 2,600 acres park with a rare Pennsylvania Plantation abutting the grounds. There are several miles of multi-use trails, and horseback riding is encouraged. Hidden Valley Farm, which is adjacent to the park, operates a stable within the park that provides horse boarding, riding lessons and trail riding services. In certain seasons, deer bow hunting is permitted. This 300-year-old plantation still is a working farm today, and the property is open to tours at certain times of the year. Though this park does not have RV camping, there’s plenty of parking for your luxury motorhome rental from Dresher.

RV Parks

When you rent a motorhome in Dresher, you’ll need someplace to park it while you explore the area. Unfortunately, the only options are farther out of town. The KOA in West Chester features amenities such as 30/50 amps, WiFi, playgrounds, and a gem mining area.

Spring Gulch RV Campground is set in the picturesque Pennsylvania Dutch part of the state. It’s a full-amenity RV park, offering amenities like heated Olympic-sized pools, a stocked fishing lake, and lake frontage for some RV lots.

You’ll occasionally need to make an unplanned stop overnight in your rental RV. Rest easy. There are a dozens of Walmarts within a 10-mile radius, and several are known to be RV friendly. Just ask the store manager for permission before you park.

Exploring the City

This close to Philadelphia, there are plenty of things to do and see, both in the city and in the suburbs. Longwood Garden, created in early 1900s, is one of the most colorful, vibrant conservatory gardens in southeastern Pennsylvania. The flowers and plants are carefully planned and laid out to ensure that something is always in bloom at all times of year. Tours are offered on daily basis, and should you need help with your own yard or garden; there are classes and workshops offered regularly throughout the year.

After you’ve done the touristy thing and visited the usual sights like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Franklin Institute, and National Constitution Center, toured the Franklin Court, hit the lesser known, hidden gems.

Eakins Oval often extends its art installations to the Museum’s steps in the evenings (weather permitting). Spend the evening listening to live music, exploring the interactive art installations, and check out the food trucks that frequent the streets. There’s also a small beer garden featuring local beers.

Take a stadium tour of the Lincoln Financial Field, affectionately known as the Linc, home to Philadelphia Eagles. You’ll get an insider look at the stadium as you visit the field, get a peek at the locker room, and the broadcast booth. Bask in the glory of the Super Bowl LII Lombardi trophy on display.

Although Philadelphia is well known for its craft beer, which dates back to the founding of this nation, the distillery scene has been growing in the recent years. Try the Manatawny Still Works or Kenzo’s Federal Distilling for “craft” moonshine and vodka.

Whether you’re a history buff or a nature lover (or both), consider a travel trailer rental in Dresher. Enjoy the football stadium, watch a sunset, sit by a campfire, and take in the amazing landscape. Rent an RV in Dresher and go exploring!
