King Charles II granted William Penn, the man credited for creating Pennsylvania, a charter for over 45,000 square miles of land. A bulk of this land was in southeastern Pennsylvania, surrounding Philadelphia. In the years after receiving the Charter, Penn ensured that for every 500 acres of land parcels sold, 10 acres was reserved for “greene country towne.” Danboro was once one of these land parcels, and it wasn’t until mid-1940s when residential homes were built. Today, Danboro is almost a one-main-street town (it now has three streets). An idyllic, quiet town, Danboro is at a halfway point between Allentown and Philadelphia, making it an ideal place to set up a figurative camp.

The closest large town is Doylestown, a little under four miles to south.

The Great Outdoors

Another advantage to visiting Danboro in your RV rental is its proximity to a number of parks. Explore a world of recreational activities! The Peace Valley Park, which wraps around Lake Galena (also known as Peace Valley Reservoir), is a popular park for locals. There are over 15 miles of trails, and the lake has abundant fishing opportunities as well. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, channel catfish, sunfish, and a few other less common fish. Small non-motorized boats are welcome, and the park rents canoes to visitors.

To the northeast, there are several small parks: Ralph Stover State Park, Tohickon Valley Park, Prahl’s Island, and Bull’s Island (technically on Delaware side of the river), all of which borders the Delaware River. Collectively, there are over 2,000 acres of land for hiking, rock-climbing, biking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, and tubing. The Tohickon (to-hick-han) Creek, which runs through the Tohickon Valley Park, is reputed to be one of the cleanest freshwater creeks in the state. Exercise caution when exploring the rocky outcroppings along the creek. Copperhead snakes are often found there. The park offers plenty of wildlife sighting opportunities. Spot critters like the pileated woodpecker, hawks, owls, and raptors.

If you seek quiet and remoteness, turn your eyes to Nockamixon State Park to the north. The park, when combined with the neighboring game land, has over 30 miles of multi-use trails winding over 10,000 acres of territory. Explore the mature woods and skip through bright, fresh meadows. Bring your horses! In addition to parking for trailers and big motorhomes, there are fenced corrals for horses to use on a short-term basis. The warm-water lake churns with smallmouth and largemouth bass and striped hybrid bass. If you want to try your hand at angling, the park lends out rods with photo id (there is limited supply, come early to secure yours).

During the hunting seasons, gun-hunting, archery, and trapping of small game and deer are permitted. You can also train your dogs to hunt in this park, and there are local trainers providing workshops and training sessions. Note: it’s highly recommended that your dogs wear blaze orange collars or vests at all times. Bring your Danboro camper rental and go adventuring.

RV Parks

When you rent a motorhome in Danboro, you’ll need someplace to park while you explore. Danboro, being a small town, is scarce on resources for the RV community. However, there are plenty of RV friendly campgrounds nearby. For example, the Tohickon Family Campgrounds in Quakertown, which is near Nockamixon, may be a good candidate. In addition to the usual full hookups, they have free showers, and the Tohickon Creek hooks around the park’s perimeter and many lots have waterfront access. If you’re so inclined, you can fish for your breakfast!

Deer Wood Campgrounds in Tohickon Valley Park may be a good alternative site if you want a more rustic setting. There is a potential snag: all motorhomes must be under 25 feet, and camper trailers must be under 18 feet. Pets are prohibited, also.

Exploring the City

This far out in the boonies, one might think that there isn’t much to do nearby. On the contrary! The Hellerick’s Family Farm is an “adventure farm,” with numerous family-friendly activities like an aerial park, goat yoga classes, rubber ducky races, and a petting zoo. There are also seasonal activities like the corn maze and “u-pick” flowers, pumpkins, gourds, and squash.

Or head into the “city," as the locals call it, and visit Doylestown’s attractions. For example, the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle, which was built by an eccentric millionaire (of the time) out of solid concrete. Obsessed with tiles, he devoted his art collection to displaying ornate tiles. Rare and unusual art paintings and prints also line several halls and wings. Both facilities offer tours throughout the year.

It might surprise you to learn that this part of Pennsylvania is suitable for growing grapes. Indeed, several wineries dot the gently rolling farmlands, nourished by the mild climate. Wrap up a long day of sightseeing and adventuring by visiting one of the local vineyards’ tasting room. The nearby Bishop Estate Vineyard and Winery may be a good option. They feature wines with charming names like “Bughouse Merlot” and “Tipsie Cow” and have a tasting room open to public daily (check online for the hours).

Wish to learn more about the picturesque beauty of Pennsylvania, consider a luxury motorhome in Danboro. Enjoy the exquisite cuisine, watch a sunset, relax by a campfire, and enjoy the scenery. Rent a travel trailer in Danboro and head out on an amazing family adventure!
