The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1700s and purchased several parcels of land from William Penn, the man credited for making the state of Pennsylvania. Most of these settlers were Quakers. Though the original homes and farms are no longer standing, U.S. Route 1 is laid over Baltimore Pike, which is one of the oldest maintained roads in the United States. A few years later, the local Quakers built a meeting house in 1728 called Hicksite, which was later expanded in 1788. This structure is still standing today and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Also, few other homes later built in the mid-1700s and after remain standing today and are in good condition.

Minutes from the Pennsylvania-Delaware border, there are several attractions and recreational areas to explore in an RV rental.

Concordville, PA, is located less than 30 miles from Philadelphia and 11 miles north of Wilmington, DE. Concordville's location makes it an excellent home base for exploring either of these two remarkable cities.

Discover Concordville

The Great Outdoors

Just across the Pennsylvania-Delaware border is the heart of Brandywine Valley, a vast piece of wilderness that’s yours for adventuring in a travel trailer rental from Concordville. Once farmed by the first settlers of America, Brandywine has returned to its original wild state. Very little remains of the original farms in Brandywine Creek State Park, except for low stone walls that are reminiscent of the stone walls found in Ireland. In the heart of the dense woods are a stand of tulip poplar trees, many of which have been found to be over 200 years old. Several miles of trails wind through picturesque woods. The open meadows, where wildflowers and grasses flourish, are equally excellent in winter for skiing and cross-country skiing. Though only primitive camping is allowed, the roomy parking lots can accommodate RV rentals.

Hike and fish at Ridley Creek State Park and find a fantastic adventure. Though it’s a modest-sized park, clocking in at only 2,600 acres, the picturesque woods and clear, pristine babbling streams, and the backdrop of birdsong makes for pleasant hikes and photography trips. In addition to oak and maple trees that dominant Pennsylvania, there are also tulip poplar, hickory, walnut, and sycamore trees, some of which are hundreds of years old. In late autumn, bow-hunting deer is permitted with the appropriate licenses. All hunters must observe the bag limit. The adventure doesn’t stop at these two parks. Explore dozens of other parks, some large and others small, in a Concordville RV rental.

RV Parks

When you search for an RV rental in Concordville, PA, be sure to figure out where to park overnight. Even out in the rural suburbs, overnight street parking is frowned upon. There are a handful of campgrounds in the area that may suit. West Chester KOA, in addition to being close to a major highway leading to Philadelphia, is also near several parks. It features fun amenities like a jump pad for both kids and adults, a dog park, and bike and kayak rentals. The lots are oversized, allowing for up to 90-foot-long rigs.

Across the Delaware River, the KOA in Clarksboro, NJ, could be an option. Though the max length is 73”, they have both pull-thru and back-in sites. Other amenities include a swimming pool, laundry area, and a dog park.

Walmart is known for being great to the RV community. In a pinch, one of the local Walmart stores, such as the one in Boothwyn, PA, or Kennett Square, may be willing to accommodate an overnight. Be sure to ask the store manager for permission beforehand.

Exploring the City

Get around the town in style with a Concordville luxury RV rental. There are several public golf courses in this part of Philadelphia suburbs. The Glen Mills Golf Course is an award-winning 18-hole course designed by Bobby Weed. Used in several qualifiers for the PGA, the facility boasts a 12-minute starting time, one of the only courses in the area to operate on an efficient schedule. In addition to the fairway, there are practice putting and chipping greens.

Cross the Delaware River in a rental RV and roam the ancient subtropical plains alongside dinosaurs. The Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington, DE features Tuojiangosaurus and Yangchuanosaurus dinosaur skeletons. Also on display are Parasaurolophus and Archaeopteryx skulls, ready to chomp on the visitors. Throughout the year, there are events geared toward both children and adults. One of their more popular events is the annual Wine & Dinosaur fundraiser, which features limited edition wines and craft beers, a silent auction, and, of course, dinosaurs.

This part of Pennsylvania is quite suitable for grape vines to flourish: mild, occasionally humid summers, and short winters. Penn Woods Winery in Chadds Ford is a family-run enterprise with over 40 years of experience. Both their reds and whites have won several awards over the years, including at the much-coveted Berlin International Wine Competition. The tasting room, which is open on weekends, looks out on several acres of grape vines laid out in neat rows blanketing rolling hills. Note that due to Pennsylvania’s strict alcohol laws, children are not allowed inside the facilities. They are welcome in the picnic area, however.

Find your perfect Pennsylvanian adventure in a Concordville camper rental as you explore the area and make memories with the family.
