The town of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania sits on the edge of Philadelphia and in the center of the suburban area known as the Main Line. Its name means “big hill” in Welsh, thanks to the large prominence that the famous and eponymously named women’s college sits on. Bryn Mawr College was opened in the late 1800s by Quakers and was one of the first universities in America to grant graduate degrees to women. It’s now one of famed Seven Sisters Schools – an elite group of northeastern liberal arts colleges.

Besides the college, there aren’t too many businesses or attractions in Bryn Mawr, though the area is well connected to the rest of the Philadelphia metro through the SEPTA regional rail line, which passes through the neighboring towns of Rosemont and Haverford. If you’d like to see the city without needing to worry about traffic or parking, this is the way to do it.

Discover Bryn Mawr

The Great Outdoors

One of the best green spaces in the area is the most obvious and is the Bryn Mawr College campus itself. When you rent an RV here, it’s well worth exploring the beautiful campus if for no other reason than to take in its history as one of the most famous women’s colleges in early America. A stroll across the green is especially nice during the summer when the grounds are a bit quieter, and most of the students have gone home for break. It’s also amazing to see the cherry blossoms bloom in the springtime.

You also should check out Valley Forge National Historical Park on the Schuylkill River. Not only is it the site of General George Washington’s famous encampment during the Revolutionary War, but it’s dotted with some beautifully restored buildings that help to educate visitors as to what it was like for patriots fighting in the 18th century. There’s a wide network of trails connecting the sites, and you can spend all day strolling between them.

You might also like visiting Wissahickon Valley Park when you book an RV in Bryn Mawr. It’s one of the largest city parks in the Philly metro area and runs along both sides of Wissahickon Creek until it meets the Schuylkill River. There are over 50 miles of trail to explore on foot or by bicycle, and the dense woods provide excellent shade on a hot summer day.

RV Parks

One of the closest places to stay when getting a camper rental in Bryn Mawr is actually across the river in New Jersey, at the Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA. They’ve got amenities that include full hookups, a dog park, a swimming pool, and a small fishing pond. You’ll also have easy access to the Philadelphia area via the nearby bus system.

For a forest camping experience, check out Brandywine Creek Campground near the town of Lydell. They offer full hookups, laundry facilities, and a swimming pool while also being right next to Marsh Creek Reservoir. The reservoir has some great trails around its periphery, so this could be an excellent choice for someone wanting to get out in nature when exploring the area with an RV rental from Bryn Mawr.

If you’d like to stay closer to Philly with the Bryn Mawr motorhome rental, you might consider camping at the Campus Park and Ride. It’s a fairly compact park but has full hookups, shower facilities, and a dump station. They also operate a shuttle that will connect you with the Philadelphia bus and train system.

It might also be possible to camp in the parking lot of the Walmart in King of Prussia. You’ll need to get the manager’s permission first, but it could be an option if you need a place to stay for a couple of nights.

Exploring the City

If you’ve got shopping on your agenda when you get a travel trailer rental in Bryn Mawr, then you’ll definitely need to visit the King of Prussia Mall. It’s one of the largest retail spaces in the United States, and you can find just about everything here, from discount brands to designer labels.

There are also some excellent museums next door to Bryn Mawr in Philadelphia with the Please Touch Me Museum being ones of the most intriguing. Interactive exhibits range from carousel rides to a street setup with supermarkets and restaurants. Everything is meant to be explored with as little restriction as possible.

Art lovers might prefer a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the iconic steps of which were made famous in the training montage of the film Rocky (there’s even a statue commemorating the fictional character outside). Inside though, you’ll find works by such world-class artists as Van Gogh and Duchamp. From the twisted architectural mind of Frank Gehry, there’s also a beautifully designed café to sip a coffee in if you need to rest between the dozens of galleries.
