Bethel, Pennsylvania is a tiny community sitting just off Interstate 78, about halfway between Allentown and the capital of Harrisburg. When you book an RV in Bethel, you’ll almost certainly be spending some time on the road, as there are very few attractions in the town proper. Thanks to the town’s central location in eastern Pennsylvania and the area’s convenient shipping routes, there are a number of large retail distribution centers just outside of town; for very similar reasons this is an excellent place to rent an RV.

Interstate 78 serves as Bethel's main connection to the rest of the state, but it’s also not far from the state’s largest city, Philadelphia, or Lancaster, the cultural center of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. No matter where you want to go, everything is close by when you choose an RV rental in Bethel, PA.

The Great Outdoors

One of the best places for fun outside in eastern Pennsylvania is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The massive park surrounds a particularly striking section of the Delaware River where it cuts through the Appalachian Mountains. Numerous trails run parallel to the river, and the waterway is a popular kayaking location; boats are available for rent from nearby sporting goods stores.

However, if you’re just looking for a picnic spot when you get a travel trailer rental in Bethel, consider Sweet Arrow Lake County Park near Pine Grove. It’s not very big, but it has a pleasant boardwalk trail that follows a stream to a little waterfall. The lake is also popular with anglers (with the proper state license) and kayakers going for a quick paddle after work.

There’s also Limestone Springs Preserve near the town of Richland, which is a popular place for fishing. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout, and no Pennsylvania fishing license is required to catch them. However, fish that are caught must be weighed and paid for, making it more like choosing your dinner (and catching it) from an outdoor supermarket.

RV Parks

The rolling hills that surround Bethel are chock-full of RV parks to stay in when you rent an RV here. Twin Grove RV Resort and Cottages is one of the closest full-service RV parks when you choose a motorhome rental in Bethel, with sites located near the beautiful Swatara State Park, making this one of the best places to camp if you’re looking to do some hiking. They also have full hookups, a fitness center, a swimming pool, a movie theater, and volleyball courts. You’ll never be left wanting for activities when you stay at Twin Grove.

There’s also the Appalachian RV Campground just off Interstate 78 and not far to the east of Bethel. It offers full hookups, a mini-golf course, and lots of activities where you can meet fellow travelers. If you want to stay close to Bethel and don’t mind having fewer amenities, Appalachian RV Campground is a good option.

Another great place to consider is the Hershey RV and Camping Resort near the town of Lebanon. This could be an ideal place to stay if you rent an RV in Bethel but want to spend more time near the capital city of Harrisburg, as it's about halfway between the two. The park has full hookups for your Bethel camper rental, in addition to a swimming pool and proximity to the famed Hershey Chocolate World experience.

Exploring the City

Bethel is quite small and doesn’t have too much in the way of tourist facilities, but it’s a great place to base yourself, especially if you’re interested in seeing some oddball Americana. Roadside America exhibits in neighboring Shartlesville consist of a massive model train setup and an equally impressive miniature village built around it. Built in the '60s, the display's founder did a fantastic job creating this beautiful miniature world. If you’re getting a camper rental in Bethel over the holidays, you’ll also want to check the Christmas Village in Bernville - a similar miniature display, but with a holiday theme.

Aviation history buffs will also love the Golden Age Air Museum, which is actually located in Bethel. They only have a few shows each year, but their biplanes from the 1920s are all in working order and ready to take to the skies. This is a great experience to enjoy with the whole family.

You just can’t go to this part of Pennsylvania without visiting Hershey's Chocolate World. There you can create your own candy bar, learn the art of chocolate tasting, and see how Hershey produces their famous confectionaries. There are several others like it throughout the U.S. and Asia, but this is the flagship store adjacent to where the delicious chocolate is actually produced and a must-see destination during any Pennsylvania road trip.
