Oregon is easily one of the most naturally beautiful places in the United States and the area around Sweet Home is especially exceptional. Santiam State Forest is a magical wilderness with just under 50,000 acres in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. This natural enclave was first established to protect local wildlife and forest areas but has evolved to become a hub for outdoor recreation too. You can hike between mighty Douglas firs, red cedars, Pacific yews, and an assortment of other native tree species, or go mountain biking, hunting, fishing, or kayaking too. The name Crater Lake refers to the caldera of an ancient volcano that now holds one of the deepest lakes on the planet. The mesmerizing waters and unimaginable beauty of this natural gem should be seen at least once in a lifetime.

Edgewater County Park and Marina sits on Foster Lake and has its own marina where guests can park their boats. You can swim in the reservoir, go fishing, or take a boat ride on the lake when you stay at this lakefront campground.

When you finally reach the town, there will be a few restaurants and shops. However, the town is quite small so you shouldn’t go in with the expectations of visiting a larger metropolitan area. There are loads of local golf courses, vineyards, and wineries in the Sweet Home Valley, so it has slowly become an upscale destination for retirees and pensioners.

Rio Theatre is a wonderful small-town movie theater that is locally owned and maintained. This historic building has been upgraded to bring it into the modern day and age, with popcorn and other current amenities. The historic Crawfordsville Bridge is a lovely sight to behold if you like to see old covered bridges. This iconic white bridge has been preserved by the town and is a fantastic place for a photo or two.

The East Linn Museum is housed in an old church and has thousands of artifacts, pieces of memorabilia, articles of clothing, and much more. You can learn so much about Linn County by touring the many exhibits or even dig up some information on your ancestors in the Linn County records.
