Welcome to Hennessey, Oklahoma, a rural town in the north-central portion of the state. Hennessey is located in north-central Kingfisher County and is named after Pat Hennessey, a freighter who was killed in the area in 1874. Before being settled by Europeans, the land was inhabited by Plains Indians who traversed the land in search of buffalo and other game. One of the area’s main attractions is the Chisholm Trail. The Chisholm Trail was used by Texas ranchers as they herded their cattle northward during the 1880s. After the arrival of the railroad in late 1889, Hennessey became a hub of agricultural trade. Today, the agriculture industry remains vibrant as do the gas plants and oil fields that operate in the area. And although agriculture is the primary player in the area, if you’re in the mood for more city vibes, Oklahoma City is just a 90-minute drive away. If you’re seeking a relaxing country getaway, you definitely want to consider Hennessey for your next vacation.
