Discover Milan

The Great Outdoors

Milan is a predominantly residential area, so while it may not have an expanse of wilderness to romp around in, it does have some lovely parks and walking paths. Bike or walk around town or take the kids to the playground to burn off some energy. While at these areas, interact with locals and get an even better sense of the area and what outdoor opportunities are available.

Venturing just 3.5 miles west of Milan you will find a few hundred acres where the vegetation runs wild. The Milan Wild Life Area has three rivers running through it and an abundance of your typical woodland critters. Hike, fish, or hunt (with permits) through this vast area.

While in Milan, you may forget the shores of Lake Erie are less than a 20-minute drive away. Finding a beach spot with swimming opportunities should not be an issue. Go and gallivant within the Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve in Huron. This preserve protects some of the last strips of undeveloped shoreline in the Sandusky Bay Region. There’s also a one-mile paved pathway so that you may enjoy the marshland habitat and sandy area.

RV Parks

Staying within the birthplace of Thomas Edison has been made easy with Milan Travel Park. If you’re looking for a simple option in-town when traveling through in your RV rental, this park offers short term stays and amenities to cater to your needs. Each site comes with full hookups for your RV, WiFi, picnic tables, and fire pits. Shared areas include bathroom and shower facilities, the outdoor pool, and dog walking area.

If you’re not set on staying within Milan and would prefer staying closer to the water, there are several options for you. Sandusky offers a KOA site with lake views. Like most KOA’s, you’ll have full RV hookups, internet and cable, and access to everything they offer onsite.

Huron River Valley Resort could be a good prospect if you are seeking more direct water access. This 50-acre property provides a mile of riverfront along the Huron River. All camping sites have full hookups for your RV, bathroom and shower facilities, and access to canoe and kayak rentals.

Exploring the Village

There is a multitude of excitement landmarks and adventurous locations for folks of all ages to enjoy in Milan. Learn about where invention began. The Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum takes you on a journey of his early life in the city. His family foundation has lead to fostering his inventive spirit. Thomas Edison's great-grandchildren and other family members still play a vital role in the museum so you may run into one of them during your explorations.

Feel like splashing around in the water, but the lake is too cold? Head over to the Kalahari Waterpark in Sandusky for a full-filled day. This is one of the largest indoor waterparks in America and is quite the site. Enjoy big winding tubed slides or shallow swimming areas. No matter what level of excitement you’re up for, Kalahari can accommodate it.
