Greenville is a city in Darke County, Ohio, as well as the county seat. It was established in August of 1808 but prior to that, had been known as Fort Green Ville. The fort had been built in 1793 during the Northwest Indian War as a training ground and operational base; at that time, it was the largest wooden fort in North America. A year later, the Legion of the United States and the Kentucky Militia left the fort, heading north to engage in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. In August 1795, the Treaty of Greenville was signed at the fort, ending the Indian Wars. European settlers arrived in 1807, and the city was officially founded in 1808. Today the city is home to various companies, and it is rumored that Old West legend Annie Oakley briefly lived in Greenville.

Search for an RV in Darke County, and you will have a front row seat to the history and culture of this county. Other towns and cities are worth visiting while you're here. Celina hosts a number of social events throughout the year, including the annual Governors Cup Regatta (hydroplane racing on Grand Lake St. Marys). Lima is home to the first of Allen County's three courthouses and has been the county's center of government since 1831. Sidney was the subject of the 2009 documentary film 45365; it is named after the British poet Sir Philip Sidney, and some of its schools are named after famous writers such as Emerson and Longfellow. Dayton is the birthplace of Orville Wright (of the Wright Brothers fame) and is publicly associated with aviation in numerous ways. Mason is home to the Lindner Family Tennis Center, one of the largest international tennis stadiums in existence. Your Greenville travel trailer rental is your introduction to Darke County and the state of Ohio.

The Great Outdoors

Englewood MetroPark consists of forested areas and swamp forest and has several waterfalls for guests to admire. Some hiking paths are paved while others, which wind through the swamp forest, are boardwalks. Hikers can view the black ash, pumpkin ash, and swamp white oak trees that dominate the swamp forest; pumpkin ash trees rarely exist in Ohio, and the park has been designated a State Natural Landmark because of them. Boating, paddling, and fishing are allowed, as well as biking, camping, geocaching, and more.

Germantown MetroPark is a rustic, semi-developed urban park where visitors can go hiking, backpacking, cycling, and much more. It is part of the Twin Valley Conservation Corridor and has old growth forest, prairie areas, and creeks. There is a welcome center where guests can have access to washrooms, potable water, a bird blind and covered porch, and more. The center also conducts outdoor education classes and training and has exhibits explaining what visitors can expect to see. Park your Greenville RV trailer rental at the center, and you can return to comfort and a warm meal when your outdoor adventure is concluded.

Twin Creek MetroPark is an urban park centered around Twin Creek, one of the cleanest bodies of water in the state. The creek is an ideal place to go canoeing, kayaking, or fishing, and is home to a variety of mussels and more than 60 fish species. One of the scenic hilltops has an unimpeded view of the surrounding area and is populated by grasshopper sparrows and other rare grassland birds. History buffs will appreciate an Indian hilltop fortification that archeologists suggest was a Hopewell Indian culture ceremonial location. Camping and hiking are also popular activities in the metropark.
