The town of Circleville can be found 30 miles south of Columbus, the state capital of Ohio. This impressive suburb of Columbus is named Circleville for the circular earthwork mounds that can be found in the area, dating back thousands of years to the prehistoric indigenous populations that inhabited central Ohio among other places. The area around Circleville was continuously occupied by different native tribes until 1810 when European settlers pushed their way westward. In 1814 the town was officially incorporated and would continue to rapidly grow into an industrial powerhouse.

These days, lots of companies still call Circleville home, but the town has become a bedroom community for nearby Columbus. US Highway 23 runs through Circleville and carries passengers north to the capital city and all the way south to the Kentucky border.

When you book an RV in Circleville, the state of Ohio is easier to explore. Every direction yields an amazing surprise, whether it be a city like Dayton or Cincinnati, or a wonderful state forest or park. Circleville itself is full of lovely surprises, great restaurants, historic buildings, and its biggest claim to fame: the Circleville Pumpkin Show, in existence since 1903. This fun-filled, four-day festival is known to attract over 400,000 people to the small town each fall and is widely considered the largest pumpkin themed festival in the United States.

Discover Circleville

Explore the Outdoors

Circleville has an astounding collection of parks. Ted Lewis Park is the busiest in town due to its central location, with a great playscape for kids, basketball and tennis courts, a picnic pavilion, and quaint walking paths for joggers and casual walkers. Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park is one of the biggest parks in Circleville, and is often referred to as the town’s “crown jewel’. With more of a natural feel, the park has several nature paths, bird watching areas, and butterfly gardens at the park, in addition to all of the usual features like playgrounds, sports fields, pavilions, and more. People can walk their dogs off leash at this pet-friendly park, or enjoy the splash pad during the summertime.

Outside of town, there are a variety of different nature-themed places to visit in your Circleville RV rental. A.W. Marion State Park is close to town and consists of gently rolling hills with fertile soil thanks to the ancient glaciers that shaped the landscape 10,000 years previous. Hargus Lake is the main feature at this park, with nature paths circling around it providing excellent views of the water. Boating, fishing, and swimming are the most common activities at the state park during summertime. Tar Hollow State Park is another place you can bring your Circleville motorhome rental when you are in need of more places to see. The park is part of Tar Hollow State Forest which covers 16,000 acres of land. Tar Hollow State Forest is one of the largest state forests in Ohio and has breathtaking views of the Appalachian foothills that surround it.

Wayne National Forest is less than an hour’s drive east and well worth a visit with the Circleville travel trailer rental. The state’s only national forest contains over 200,000 acres of pristine wilderness that is perfect for hiking and camping.

Hopewell Culture National Historical Park is known for its beauty as well as its historical importance. This impressive park down near the city of Chillicothe is considered a sacred space, coming into existence over 2,000 years ago in the form of earthworks and ceremonial mounds that still exist today. Cuyahoga National Park can be found just outside of Cleveland, and is one of the nation’s smallest parks. What was once a recreation area has been turned into a national park due to its historic importance as well as its sheer beauty.
