Set in the heart of Crawford County, the sleepy town of Bucyrus has managed to preserve much of its cultural heritage. The town's earliest settlers were of German ancestry, and even now it is often referred to as the Bratwurst Capital of the World. With the arrival of two railroads in the mid-1800s, this quiet farming community became a bustling center of trade. The modern town is no longer industrial; instead, its charming streets host a number of independent merchant stores. You can see professionals making copper kettles, jellies, and butter by hand when you rent a campervan in Bucyrus.

What’s more, Bucyrus is just a short drive from nature preserves and state parks. Within half an hour's drive, you can escape to beautiful woodlands and discover stunning viewpoints. The town itself is well connected too. State Highways 4 and 30 pass through the center of town. You can easily reach the southern banks of Lake Erie or the neighboring cities of Mansfield and Springfield with your camper rental from Bucyrus.

The Great Outdoors

You can begin your vacation with a travel trailer rental from Bucyrus by heading east to Mohican State Park and exploring the 4,500-acre Mohican State Forest. The area provides opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. As host to one of the oldest ultra-marathons in the US, The Mohican Trail 100, the park is popular with trail runners too. There are also excellent canoeing routes on the Clear Fork Mohican River which traverses the Mohican State Park. While you’re here, don’t miss the dramatic view from the bluff above Clear Fork Gorge. This region also hosts several remarkable natural formations, some of which were formed during the ice age. One of the most impressive sights is Wisconsinan, the last remaining glacier in Ohio.

If you enjoy bird watching, then make a detour to the Springville Marsh State Nature Preserve. Despite being just a short distance from Interstate 75, this is the largest inland wetland in the state and one of the best places to observe nature and wildlife in northwestern Ohio. The 200-acre area is home to cattail marshes, sedge meadows, and shrubby thickets. You can observe the area on foot using the boardwalk trail system or climb to a viewing tower. The most bird life can be spotted during the early mornings from March to November.

Just south of town is Daughmer Prairie Savannah State Nature Preserve, a nature reserve and ideal place for plant enthusiasts to take a Bucyrus RV rental. This richly diverse extension of America’s prairie heartland once covered nearly 200,000 acres of Crawford County. Although the area has since reduced to just 75 acres, visitors can still find a well-preserved bur oak savanna as well as a mixture of ash, maple, elm, and oak trees. The area also hosts a variety of grass and plant communities within sedge meadow, wet prairie, bluejoint swales, and pothole marshes.

Or, pack up the Bucyrus motorhome rental and head south to Delaware State Park. The 2,000-acre park hosts a variety of tree types within a secondary growth forest, lush meadows speckled with wildflowers, and a public beach. Motorized boating is permitted on Lake Delaware, or you can explore the dense woodland by renting a bike. The park also offers camping facilities and five easy hiking trails for visitors of all abilities. During the winter season, these hiking trails are ideal for cross-country skiing, and you can even ice skate on the frozen lake. Delaware State Park is a great year-round retreat for you and your motorhome rental from Bucyrus.
