Buckeye Lake is situated in central Ohio, with a small community that shares its name on its north shore. The nearest larger town to the lake site is Heath, which is less than 10 miles to the north, while the large city of Columbus, also the state's capital, is around 30 miles to the west.

Buckeye Lake was formed at what was once the site of a large swamp and was created by the damming of a nearby river. It was named after a nut that is common in this region (and that also gives the state one of its nicknames). Recreational opportunities abound here. There are water sports on the lake, hiking and biking trails on the land that surrounds Buckeye Lake, and visitors can explore nearby natural areas and parks. You won't be bored when you visit this part of the country!
