Founded in 1833, Attica, Ohio is a tiny village in northern Ohio that is home to under a thousand people. The town shares a name with Attica, New York, home of some of the original pioneers that made their way westward to the wide-open, beautiful lands of the Ohio Territory.

Attica can be found between the state capital, Columbus, and the city of Sandusky on the shores of Lake Erie to the north. There are a few locally owned businesses and restaurants in the town’s historic square, but most of the fun to be had occurs after you book an RV in Attica and tour the area in an effort to see some of Ohio’s nicest state parks. The area to the north is referred to as Vacationland by residents of Ohio, recognizing its enormous tourism capacity and ability to attract travelers from other states. The shores of Lake Erie are close to town and reason enough to warrant an Attica camper rental trip for your next vacation.

The Great Outdoors

Ohio is known to surprise first-time visitors, with magical scenery and wide-open parks meant for recreation and basking in the glorious outdoors. Much of Ohio is urbanized, but there still remains a bevy of fantastic parks and forests where people can escape for pleasant, peaceful excursions to take a break from city life. When you rent an RV in Attica, it'll be a breeze finding a suitable place to spend your vacation.

Pleasant Hill Lake is located to the southeast, sandwiched between Malabar Farm State Park and Mohican-Memorial State Forest. Malabar Farm State Park was formerly owned by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield before being ceded to the state after his death. Historic cabins, hotels, and other structures dot the property, including a few haunted buildings and a youth hostel for budget travelers. The park even hosts the Heritage Days and Maple Sugar Festival events, celebrating history and local culinary delights. Mohican-Memorial State Forest was once a decimated and desolate stretch of land left behind by the logging companies. The forest was abandoned after there were no trees left to harvest, so the Ohio Division of Forestry reclaimed the land, working hard to reforest it. Now the forest is a fabulous place to hike once again, with soothing nature sounds and tons of natural beauty.

To the north on the Marblehead Peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie, you can cool off or soak up some sun rays by the water’s edge. This Vacationland hotspot attracts crowds of tourists each summer, eager to catch a glimpse of the Great Lake and swim in its shimmering waters. There are several miles of stunning sandy beaches, ample space to swim, picnicking spots, disc golfing, and various hiking trails. There is even a beachside campground where you can park your Attica motorhome rental when you visit.

A quick drive east towards Cleveland will bring you close to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, one of the state’s best-kept secrets. When you rent an RV and head off to this stunning little paradise, you’ll be able to explore 30,000 acres of pristine wilderness teeming with wildlife and lush flora. The park may be small, but it brings in millions of visitors annually. There are historic buildings, hidden waterfalls, twisting hiking and biking trails, and a visitor center to inform you about the park you are visiting.

RV Parks

True to its name, Vacationland delivers on all accounts when you rent an RV in northern Ohio. There are plenty of places to camp when you need a place to stay near Attica, like Gotta Getaway RV Park. There are cabins, a playground, a camp store, laundry facilities, and a pool that you may use when you choose to stay here during your visit.

Sunset Springs RV Resort is an upscale destination worth considering, if only for its private beach. Additionally, there are luxury cabins, organic gardens, and loads of fun events.

Sandusky/Bayshore KOA Campground is well known for its service and amenities. There is a pool, a snack bar, basketball courts, rental bicycles, a fishing pond, and even a gem mine where you can look for precious minerals.

City Sightseeing

Attica has a few historic brick buildings and an assortment of restaurants and shops to keep you entertained if you want to spend a few hours in town, but it is not known for its points of interest. The Attica Raceway Park is the closest thing Attica has to an attraction. The racetrack has been around since 1988, holding a variety of events and races throughout the week. You can watch races, tailgate with friends in the parking lot, or even take racing classes if you have a proclivity for speed.

The city of Tiffin is a short drive west when you rent an RV in Attica and want to visit some museums or historic theaters. The Ritz Theatre is a decadent old institution with an illustrious past to match its ornate columns and detailed style. Big-name music acts and theatrical productions are commonly playing or performing in this refurbished theater.

Tiffin Glass Museum and Seneca County Museum are two exceptional places to observe artwork or learn about the area you are visiting. The Tiffin Glass Museum is run by volunteers with a passion for glasswork and is set up as half-museum, half-glass shop. Seneca County Museum is the go-to resource for all questions regarding Seneca County’s history. There is a wide range of artifacts and photographs that enlighten the people who take the time to learn a thing or two.
