The seaside village of Nags Head, North Carolina, is primarily a summertime vacation destination although there is a small community that lives on the barrier island all year round. The town is named for several places called Nags Head in England and was founded in the early 19th century. The Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills pays homage to Orville and Wilbur Wright who successfully flew the first powered flying vehicle on the dunes of the Outer Banks back in 1903. Visitors to the museum can learn about the fascinating lives of the Wright brothers and the patent wars they had to wage in order to protect their intellectual property once they successfully flew their plane.
