Before setting out on your next New Jersey excursion, book an RV in Toms River and have it waiting for you when you arrive. The seat of Ocean County is Toms River, formerly known as the Township of Dover until 2006 when voters changed the name to the Township of Toms River. The village of Toms River (a smaller, unincorporated region within the Township) is a state and national historic place, due to its role in the American Civil War. Other nearby towns and cities include Edison, Trenton, Allentown, and Atlantic City.

Originally, Toms River was a center for iron and lumber production, shipbuilding, whaling, and fishing. Today, it is famous for numerous children's and teens’ sports titles in baseball, football, and cheerleading. In the 1990s, Toms River was prominent in the news when its Little League baseball team, nicknamed the "Beast from the East", participated in the Little League World Series three times in five years.

Toms River is also home to a long list of celebrities in basketball, soccer, football, professional wrestling, figure skating, baseball, ice hockey, radio, TV & movies, and more. It has appeared in the TV shows “Made”, “Jersey Shore”, and the original movie version of “The Amityville Horror”. The New Jersey Chili and Salsa Cook-Off, the New Jersey Ice Cream Festival and one of the largest Halloween parades in the world also call Toms River home.

The Great Outdoors

Cattus Island County Park is northeast of Toms River and a good start to getting some fresh air and exercise when you rent an RV. Hiking trails aren't difficult and some have good views of the nearby bays; a wetland boardwalk will give you a bird's eye view, and both young and old will enjoy the butterfly garden. Take your Toms River travel trailer rental with you and finish your excursions with a delicious homemade lunch.

Those who enjoy family drives can cross the bridge to Seaside Heights. Head north and view the houses that line this thin slice of land, then ride the coastal highway to Mantoloking before returning to the coast once again. Visitors who embark on this short trip in their Toms River RV rental can enjoy more sightseeing in the township of Brick or continue on to Skyzone Trampoline Park, which offers a variety of indoor trampolines and trampoline activities such as ultimate dodgeball, the foam zone (for fun landings), ultimate volleyball and the sky slam, where everyone can pretend they're playing in the NBA.

Those who are interested in hunting as well as hiking and sightseeing can head northwest to Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area, a system of forests, swamps, fields, and lakes. Directly west of Toms River and formerly known as Lebanon State Forest, the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest allows the hunting of deer, squirrel, rabbit, and grouse in selected sections of the forest. Picnic tables and grills are located throughout the park for visitors to enjoy, and hikers can take in the smells when hiking through stands of pine and white cedar trees. The state forest is also home to Whitesbog Village, which hosts its annual Blueberry Festival the last weekend in June, although visitors can probably sample the village's blueberries at other times of the year, too. Don't forget to take some blueberry preserves back to your motorhome rental in Toms River for enjoying the next day.
