The setting for one of the last battles fought during the American Revolutionary War, Springfield Township lies along the Rahway River in New Jersey’s Union County. It was created as a township in 1794, bringing together parts of Elizabeth Township and Newark Township, and named after the numerous springs and brooks that flourish in the area.
