Rocky Hill is a borough of Somerset County. Situated in central New Jersey, the area was settled in 1701 and incorporated as a municipality in 1890. The town got its name before roads were paved and improved and automobile travel was not yet popular. At the time, the area was known as the Devil’s Featherbed because it was difficult to traverse the rocky terrain by horse and carriage. Today, Rocky Hill lies in “the heart of New Jersey.” Surrounded by working farms, distinguished estates, green spaces, and mere minutes from bustling metropolises, you’re bound to discover something new in Rocky Hill.

The Great Outdoors

Van Horne Park covers 95 acres and stretches across Rocky Hill and Montgomery. The park has walking trails which meander through wetland areas, baseball and soccer fields, and large play structures for children. There are also basketball courts and open spaces for picnicking or just running around. And be sure to keep your eyes peeled when you visit because white-tailed deer are known to frequent the area.

Colonial Park is another place to check out when you book an RV in Somerset County. The park sits on 685 acres with the Millstone River flowing through it. A spectacular park with gorgeous views of the river and frontage on the historic Delaware and Raritan Canal, there’s something for everyone to do here. Hiking trails, ice skating, tennis courts, picnic pavilions, a miniature golf course, cross-country skiing when weather permits, paddle boats, fishing, and much more can all be enjoyed when you rent a motorhome in Rocky Hill and visit the park. If you’re into golf, you can also work on your swing at the 18-hole championship course located within the park.

Planning to reserve a motorhome rental in Rocky Hill? Pay to visit to Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park in Princeton for a perfect blend of history and the outdoors. Nestled along the Delaware and Raritan Canal, the New Jersey state park boasts 70 miles of multi-use paths along the historic canal. Whether you come to see the historic sites, hike, bike, run, fish, canoe, or do a little horseback riding, be sure to check out this gem when you book an RV rental in Rocky Hill.

RV Parks

If you’re looking for a place to park your camper rental in Rocky Hill, unfortunately, there isn’t an abundance of options near the city. There is a Walmart in Princeton about ten minutes' drive away, and Walmart is usually pretty good about letting people park RVs overnight. Just be sure that you speak with the manager beforehand to get permission. However, if you’re willing to drive about 45 minutes for a more traditional camping experience, then there are a few you can visit.

Indian Rock RV Park and Campground in Jackson sits on 30 acres and has sites shaded by pine and oak trees. Each campsite has partial hookups, and some have sewer hookups too. On the property, you’ll find basketball courts, volleyball areas, a playground, mini-golf, table tennis, and horseshoe pits. There’s also a seasonal swimming pool, bathhouses, a dog park, picnic pavilions, a campground store, and a game room.

Another place you can check out, especially if you want to be close to New York City, is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City. Although it’s about 50 minutes' drive away from Rocky Hill, it’s less than 15 minutes from New York City. Bring your travel trailer rental from Rocky Hill and secure a spot at this urban campground. Boasting views of the New York skyline, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty, the RV park has 50 sites with partial hookups and an on-site dump station. Campers also have access to bathhouses with hot showers, a 24/7 coin-laundry facility, and a restaurant/bar on the premises.

Exploring the City

Rocky Hill is a historic town, and a visit here wouldn’t be complete without checking out the historic district. Here, you’ll find many of the homes are in the Historic Preservation District, and several are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Walk along Crescent Avenue, Washington Street, Park Avenue, and the other roads located in the district, and get a glimpse of what life may have been like “back in the day.”

Who doesn’t love an ice-cold beer every now and again? A bar in Somerville has month-long, brewpub-like experiences. Each month, a different brewery is featured with up to 12 lines on draft. Whether you’re a cicerone or just an occasional beer drinker, indulge in some hoppy drinks and a unique experience when you head to Downtown Somerville.

Another point of interest, especially if you like history, is the Abraham Staats House in South Bound Brook. The home is one of the earliest surviving homes from the Dutch Settlement of the Raritan Valley. Built in the 18th century, the Abraham Staats House served as headquarters to General von Steuben during the second Middlebrook Encampment of the American Revolution. Tour the house and property by calling and making an appointment.
