Phillipsburg, New Jersey sits in the area known as the Delaware River Valley. It was once an important manufacturing center, thanks to its proximity to New York City and the Delaware River’s ability to transport goods down to Philadelphia. Just across the Delaware River is Phillipsburg's sister city of Easton, Pennsylvania, which shares in its industrial history.

The town is also right off Interstate 78, which connects Phillipsburg with NYC, Allentown, and the capital of Harrisburg. To get around Phillipsburg and surrounding area you’ll almost certainly need to drive. While the New Jersey transit system has a few bus lines in the region, they are not frequent enough or extensive enough to make them convenient for tourists. If you decide to take a trip into one of the major metropolitan areas, it might be a good idea to leave your Phillipsburg RV rental back at the park.

Hiking and biking the trails are popular activities too. Waterfowl and other wildlife can be seen throughout the park, and there are quite a few spots to enjoy a picnic.

Love scuba diving or thinking about getting certified? There is a waterpark west of town in Bethlehem that has a sunken wonderland built just below the surface of its big lake. For those that have no desire to dive into the depths of the water, there are also some fun slides and a great swimming area that’s suitable for all ages.

For those hoping to hit the links, there are a few private and municipal golf courses within a short drive of Phillipsburg. If you’re traveling with kids, they might also enjoy the mini-golf park in Easton, which even has a laser tag facility.

RV Parks

Phillipsburg and the surrounding region doesn’t have an extensive selection of dedicated and amenity-filled RV parks, however, there are a few campgrounds that should suit your needs when you rent an RV here. Mountainview Campground is one of the closest and offers electrical hookups, fire rings, and a gorgeous forest to wander around in.

Another option is the Ringing Rocks Family Campground a bit south of town. Sites are equipped with water and electrical hookups, and there’s a heated swimming pool and also laundry facilities on site. It’s close to Ringing Rocks County Park, which has the unusual distinction of being populated with rock piles that ring loudly when struck with a hammer – a fascinating quirk of geology that the kids are sure to enjoy.

For an upscale RV camping experience when you get a motorhome rental in Phillipsburg, check out Colonial Woods Family Camping Resort a little farther south of Ringing Rocks. They also have sites with electrical hookups. The resort has a swimming pool, laundry facilities, showers, and a rec hall that hosts events on weekends. The resort is close to the Delaware River, so you might want to ask about renting inner tubes and utilizing the shuttle service to organize a float trip.

Exploring the City

Just across the river in Pennsylvania sits one of the best tourist attractions if you’re traveling with kids: the Crayola Experience. While there are a few of these experiences around the country, usually in large malls or tourist hot spots, this is the headquarters of the famous crayon manufacturer. You’ll have the chance to see how wax is transformed into the iconic pencils and have the opportunity to draw with them in the dozen or so creative spaces.

Another interesting attraction in Easton is the National Canal Museum, which commemorates the coal canals that ran through New Jersey and Pennsylvania, supplying the up-and-coming industrial cities with the fuel they needed to grow. A number of hands-on exhibits and historical artifacts allow visitors to experience what life was like in early-1800's America. There’s even horse-drawn boat ride demonstrating the primary means of hauling the heavy coal barges up the river before the steam engine became popular.

If shopping is on your agenda during your Phillipsburg camper rental vacation, head to the downtown area of the town, which has some cute shops to browse and delicious eateries to enjoy. The Phillipsburg Mall is on the east side of town, where there are a few shops worth checking out.
