The rural town of Beverly, New Jersey sits about 15 miles up the Delaware River from Philadelphia and is one of the most beautiful places you could stay when visiting the area. Despite being so close to a major metropolitan area, it’s retained much of its small-town charm and feels a world away from the bright lights of the city.

Book an RV in Beverly, and you can see the Philadelphia area without worrying about the high price of accommodations or traffic congestion. The NJ Transit provides service between Beverly and Camden via the River Line light rail system, which connects it to the capital of Trenton. From Camden, you can pick a local bus into Philadelphia, which means you can leave your RV rental from Beverly back at the park.

Discover Beverly

The Great Outdoors

New Jersey is one of the most densely populated states in the U.S., though there are some great places for outdoor recreation too. Neshaminy State Park is one of the best places to get outside when you rent an RV in Beverly as it’s just across the Delaware River from it. Not only does it have some amazing views of the Philadelphia skyline, but you can also swim in the adjacent Delaware Creek – perfect for cooling off on a hot day. There are a couple of trails to wander, but none are very long, just enough to give yourself and any four-legged friends a bit of exercise.

If you need a larger green space to play in, there’s Rancocas State Park just outside the town of Hainesport. The park encompasses vast swaths of old-growth forest and wetlands but has several excellent trails that take at least an hour to hike. One of the most popular is the four-mile loop trail that winds its way around the marshy areas and visits a historic home. The trails aren’t very well marked here, so be prepared to use your phone’s GPS to find your way out.

Even bigger hiking adventures can be found in the Wharton State Forest, New Jersey’s largest protected green space. The sprawling parkland is one of the few areas in the state with public campgrounds, so come prepared for busy trails during the summer months. The 55-mile-long Batona Trail passes through the forest and is one of the most popular hikes in the area.

RV Parks

Given how densely populated the Philadelphia region can be, it can be a bit of a challenge to find a campground when you choose a motorhome rental in Beverly; most of them are located to the south of Camden. One of the closest places to camp is the Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA. It has lots of amenities including full hookups for your Beverly RV rental, a swimming pool, laundry facilities, and a full schedule of activities to participate in with other travelers.

If you prefer something farther north in The Garden State, there’s the Timberland Lake Campground near the town of Jackson and just off I-195. It’s a tranquil RV park, complete with a swimming pool, a mini-golf course, a fishing pond, and full hookups for your travel trailer rental from Beverly. They even have DJs come out on Saturdays to host a dance party.

Exploring the City

Most of the attractions in the Beverly area will be found closer to Philadelphia, so plan on taking the bus or light rail down to the city for at least a few days during your visit. The City of Brotherly Love is known for playing an outsized role in the founding of America and has a number of interesting historical sites worth visiting. The Liberty Bell is one of the most obvious tourist sites, but there are also some lesser-known gems like Andalusia Historic House and Gardens, which sits a little bit north of Philadelphia on the banks of the Delaware River and is one of the best examples of Greek revival architecture in the northeast.

If you’re traveling with younger children, you’ll almost certainly want to stop at Sesame Place, a theme park centered on the iconic children’s show, Sesame Street. They can meet Big Bird and the Count, or ride on the park’s thrilling roller coaster, Oscar’s Wacky Taxi. It’s a fantastic place to bring the whole family.

It’s also worth checking the schedule at the ExCITE Center and TD Bank Amphitheater, both of which play host to some of the country’s most popular musical acts and comedians. Nothing says summer quite like an evening at the outdoor amphitheater: lounging in folding chairs, sipping a cold one, while enjoying your favorite band up on stage.
