Berlin, New Jersey is a small town situated on the outskirts of Philadelphia. Berlin has a fascinating history as it was originally named "Long-a-Coming" by Native Americans due to a legend surrounding the town. The legend claims a group of sailors during the 17th century got lost on the coast of Philadelphia and eventually found the stream here, which was "long-a-coming."

The town expanded in the early 1800s due to its position between Philadelphia and Absecon, making it a logical stopping point for travelers. The town's position, coupled with its location on high ground and its proximity to a branch of Great Egg Harbor River, meant that Berlin was an ideal place to settle. In the modern age, Berlin is still quite small but offers easy access to both the city and country, making RV rentals in Berlin ideal for weary travelers and avid explorers alike.

Discover Berlin

The Great Outdoors

One of the biggest reasons campers rent an RV in Berlin is due to its proximity to Wharton State Forest. Wharton State Forest covers over 1,000 acres, so there's plenty to discover when you visit here. After enjoying a long hike, visitors are also welcome to take a dip in Atsion Lake while having a picnic or grilling out. Other water recreation includes kayaking, fishing, and canoeing. If you're looking for some history in the forest, then you might want to stop by Batsto Village. This abandoned village was a significant producer of iron in the region during the Revolutionary War, but now it just makes a great place to explore.

If you love nature watching, then you'll enjoy an RV rental in Berlin as beautiful nature reserves surround the town. One of the closest to Berlin is Glassboro Wildlife Management Area. This spot is ideal if you're an avid birdwatcher, as the park is renowned for its varied habitats and migratory birds. Visitors may spot rare species such as scarlet tanagers and American redstarts. There are a lot of hiking trails here too, and with the park's varied habitat, you'll find no shortage of exciting sights and sounds.

Another excellent wildlife park to visit is the Winslow Fish and Wildlife Management Area. This park covers over 7,000 acres of swamp and forest, so there's plenty of space to explore here too. This wildlife area is a popular fishing and hunting destination, with white-tailed deer being a favorite during hunting season. A unique part of this park is the Blue Hole, a small lake which is said to be bottomless and visited by the legendary Jersey Devil.
