Named for the Anaconda Mountains, Anaconda is a medium-sized town in southwestern Montana between the cities of Bozeman and Missoula. Anaconda was first established back in the late 19th century when the mining industry was absolutely booming, and smelters were being built everywhere to process the large amount of copper ore being extracted from nearby mines in the mountains. When Montana was formally admitted to the country, Anaconda was proposed as a potential capital, but Helena wound up remaining the state capital.

Now when you book an RV in Anaconda, you can find a charming community full of character, taking pride in the beauty of its city streets, historic buildings, and mesmerizing landscapes that encapsulate the mountain town. Tourism has since surpassed the mining industry as a primary source of revenue within the town. Each year, outdoor enthusiasts pour into Anaconda to buy camping supplies and head out into the fabled mountains and dense evergreen forests that Montana is famous for. It may not be the biggest or brightest city, but when you rent an RV in Anaconda, you won’t want to leave.

Discover Anaconda

The Great Outdoors

Of all the states in the vast expanse of the United States of America, Montana might be one of the most sparsely-populated, largest, and most beautiful: a potent trio of characteristics that make for stellar camping and sightseeing in the great outdoors. The area around Anaconda is teeming with countless parks, mountain top vistas, parks, hiking trails, and campgrounds for you to visit when you rent an RV. Lost Creek State Park is a short drive north of town, populated by bighorn sheep dancing around on the lofty limestone cliffs of staggeringly tall rock formations that encase the park’s fertile creek valley. You can hike around the small park, go fishing in the creek, bike through the woods, have a picnic, observe its wildlife, and camp out with your Anaconda motorhome rental during your stay.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest has well over three million acres of stunning Montana land, blanketing the northern Rocky Mountains, with a large chunk of the forest falling within Anaconda’s boundaries. You can climb up and trek to mountains like Longs Peak, West Goat Peak, Fish Peak, and Queener Mountain if you are ready for some adventure, but conquering these two-mile-high mountains is no easy feat. Seymour Creek Campground is close to town and lies within the forest, giving you a suitable spot to camp overnight with the Anaconda motorhome rental.

This region of the country has some of the best national parks you could possibly imagine, so it’s a no-brainer to pack up your RV and hit the road. Yellowstone National Park is one of the most recognized wilderness areas in the world, and one of the most widely visited parks in the United States. Known for its amazing geological activity, this seismic hotspot in Wyoming has incredible rock formations, sulfur pools, geysers, and other geological phenomena coupled with magnificent views and well-kept campgrounds. Glacier National Park reigns supreme in Montana, bringing in over three million people per year to witness its enchanting forests, cascading waterfalls, ancient glaciers, and elegant mountain peaks. The mountains in the park were left behind over one hundred million years ago, carved into the crust by receding glaciers. Old-growth forest, magical lakes, and countless endangered species inhabit this beloved sanctuary, a real treat for any vacationer to check out.

Flea markets, small-town diners, antique shops, art galleries, and breweries can be found up and down the main streets of the city, and are often housed in historic buildings. The Deer Lodge County Courthouse, Club Moderne, and the Hearst Free Library are just a few of the historic structures in town that are worth seeing on a walking tour. It also highlights the copper smelting industry and the general history of the surrounding areas. The magnificent brick building that holds the museum is a work of art itself, and there are frequent displays of locally produced artwork in the halls of the museum too.

At one point, the park’s smokestack was the tallest in the world, a true feat of engineering that the town took pride in. The park is full of informative plaques and copper statues commemorating the importance of the smelting and mining industries in the town.
