The small agricultural town of Zimmerman, Minnesota is located approximately 40 miles north of the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area, and 30 miles east of St. Cloud. Incorporated in 1910 under the name Lake Fremont, the town would later be renamed Zimmerman for the local farmer who helped convince the Great Northern Railway to pass through his town, resulting in prosperity for the area. This lovely community in central Minnesota is nestled between lakes and forests making it an exciting place to rent an RV and set off on a tour of the great wilderness areas of the north. Zimmerman itself is the perfect example of a friendly town in middle America where everyone knows each other's names, and most of the businesses are locally owned.

When you book an RV in Zimmerman, it is best to do so during one of the town’s many events. The Wild West Days event is held each year during Memorial Day weekend and is a great way to kick off the wonderful summer months in style.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

The town of Zimmerman has a few parks and recreation areas, like its disc golf course, ice rink, basketball courts, and other sports complexes where anyone can participate in activities. The largest park in Zimmerman is the Fremont Wildlife Management Area. This wonderful sanctuary is home to many different types of migratory birds, if even for a few days while they rest along their long-distance journeys.

Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge is directly outside of town, offering excellent access to outdoor recreation when you rent an RV in Zimmerman. Wide open oak savannas and wetlands can be found at this delightful refuge, where over 200 species of animals can be seen. The refuge is great for kayaking and canoeing, and in the wintertime, lots of people choose to snowshoe and cross-country ski. The natural hiking loops are fantastic as well, enabling visitors to see some of the featured wildlife in their natural habitats. Sand Dunes State Forest is adjacent to the refuge. Horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing are some of the many ways to get around this spectacular state forest to see the scenery. The boat ramp is great for launching personal watercraft, and fishing off of the fishing pier is excellent.

St. Croix State Park and St. Croix State Forest are other fun places to explore with the Zimmerman RV rental. Both are ideal places to birdwatch or hike to the scenic fire tower which holds panoramic views of the surrounding forestlands.

Superior National Forest is one of the largest untouched wilderness areas in the region, and possibly the country, with nearly four million acres of pristine land. City Attractions

Zimmerman might have a few attractions to see in town, but it is no secret that most tourists come to enjoy the natural beauty and the scenery surrounding it. Zimmerman has lots of wonderful restaurants, breweries, wineries, and other locally owned businesses so it has you covered as far as drinking and eating are concerned.

If you are looking for more exciting attractions, St. Cloud is quite close and has some fun things to check out. Munsinger Gardens and Clemens Gardens are two picturesque botanical gardens set up for pleasant, peaceful strolls and tranquil meditation.

You could catch a hockey game at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center named for the iconic coach of the “Miracle on Ice” team that won the 1980 Olympic Games gold medal against the Russian team. Stearns History Museum gives visitors an interesting insight into how the area was settled and the ancient native villages that can be found intermittently around the area.

Where to Park It

Zimmerman is essentially surrounded by nature, with parks and forests in all directions, so finding a spot to park the camper rental near Zimmerman should be relatively simple. Ann Lake Campground is located at Sand Dunes State Park and could be a nice place to stay, especially if you enjoy swimming in lakes or reading on sandy beaches.

Country Camping offers kayaking, canoeing, and tubing, with rental equipment offered on site. The waterfront location allows for easy access to swimming and fishing, too.

Kozy Oaks Kamp is located on Horse Leg Lake, a peaceful sanctuary where only non-motorized watercraft is allowed. The heated pool is a nice feature for those that don't necessarily like swimming in ponds or lakes.

Minneapolis Northwest KOA is located halfway to Minneapolis, so if you plan to head in for a big Twin Cities excursion, this might be a good choice for you and the Zimmerman camper rental. Other amenities here include a dog park, pool, and mini golf course.
