Discover Pewamo

The Great Outdoors of Pewamo

Since no visit to the Midwest is complete without having spent at least some time by one of the majestic Great Lakes, you’d better hop into your motorhome rental in Pewamo and head toward Muskegon State Park. Here you’ll get not only fantastic views of the water, but also lushly forested dunes, and lots of fun. Go swimming and paddling in the lake, or sit down for a lovely picnic. Oh, and in the winter, there’s skiing.

Also within reach of your travel trailer rental in Pewamo are the Huron-Manistee National Forests, where you can really get some recreation under your belt. You can hike or bike on trails winding through the gorgeous nature consisting of marshlands and oak savannas, and there are bodies of water perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing. You can also go searching for rocks and minerals - unless the ground is covered in snow, in which case you can go skiing instead.

If you haven’t seen that much wildlife yet, then go ahead and drive to Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge. As the name suggests, this is a place where you can spot many an animal. Go for a hike on the great open prairie, through lush forest wetlands, and by lots of marshes and you see Canada geese, mallards, great egrets or other waterfowl; just make sure you don’t forget your zoom lens for your camera in the Pewamo RV trailer rental.

RV Parks in Pewamo

While you can’t really park your RV rental in Pewamo, MI, there are several places just a short ride away. Have a look at Maple River Campground, for example, where you can go fishing, sit around the fire ring or rent canoes - oh, and the hookups are full. This campground could be great for both kids and adults.

Welcome Woods Family Campground is also family-friendly, with its lake access and loads of fun places to play. There’s a restroom, and if you didn’t get clean enough in the lake, there’s a shower too. Should you or that RV of yours need some refreshments, there’s a grocery store in Pewamo and gas stations mere minutes away.

Exploring Pewamo

Since the village of Pewamo is so small and cozy, there’s not that much to do in the village itself, other than looking at the great views, reload your batteries, and go for a delicious burger or a cheesy pizza, of course. Instead, you can head to Ionia and visit the old theater, built for Vaudeville entertainers but turned into a cinema. Even though some of the movies might be pretty modern, the interior design and nostalgic atmosphere sure are not.

If you’re at all into engines, vintage things, and trains, then a visit to the Steam Railroading Institute is a must. Here you’ll find an abundance of really cool trains, locomotives, and boxcars, all of different ages and with different stories to tell. Around Christmas time, you can go on the North Pole Express, and during the warmer months, there are many other rides to go on.

For a little taste of both art and rich flora, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a lovely place to wander around. Admire the sculptures, have a look at the amphitheater, or stroll around the Japanese garden - you can even find one dedicated to Michigan farming. Here you can also buy some gifts for your loved ones, as a consolation prize for their disappointment that they didn’t decide to book an RV in Pewamo too.
